Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: A 15th Century Manor House which now houses a small but quaint museum which is completely run by unpaid volunteers. Exhibitions reflect local history, and are themed by the Curator - Dr Lita Strampp. Our Landlords (Porlock Parish Council), were successful in achieving National Lottery Funding to improve the building nearly 10 years ago. We are rent paying tenants in the building. We do not have an entry fee, but invite those visiting to make a donation towards the current rent, and ongoing running costs. We hope you might be generous, but any amount small or larger is gratefully received. Thank you. We are a Registered Charity

Very interesting local museum full of documents, photographs and objects. Housed in an attractive old building with some steep stairs. Visit could be as long as you wish to make it. Currently has a Great War exhibition in one room.

There is also what I think may be an interesting garden but it was rather wet to explore properly. Various well labelled, quite informative, herbs near entrance.

Well worth a visit and nice that a donation was sought rather than a fixed entrance fee.

I was not sure whether this museum was going to be interesting or not. It is in a lovely old building at the end of Porlock High Street and it turned out to be a wonderful little museum, full of old photographs and nick-nacks. After visiting we had fun working out where the old photos had been taken and what had changed.
The museum also has a different exhibition each year in the "solar" room at the end of building.
Well worth a visit.

An excellent little local museum made all the more interesting by being in an architecturally interesting building.

Adults and little ones (4&6) enjoyed. Great place - worth a visit. Great views across to Wales from the top of the garden.

Great collection of artefacts, photos and various articles giving history and information about the village and area. Particularly poignant coverage of World War One. Staffed entirely by volunteers therefore no admission charge but donation box.
