We ate here on a Saturday night in August expecting it to be really busy and buzzy, but actually it was almost deathly quiet! The decor is rather dowdy and they could do with a bit of quiet music in the background and redecorating the restaurant area and maybe do something about lighting to create an atmosphere. The menu is very ordinary, but they do have a specials board. When we went no-one actually pointed out that there were specials and where we were seated you could not see that board. The food was fine, nothing spectacular I would compare it to pub food rather than restaurant food as there wasn't anything on the menu that required a 'chef' rather than a reasonable cook. Go with a group of friends not the place for a couple unless you prefer whispering!! The starter I had was very nice, mussels and they were fresh and properly cooked but the bread served with them was dry and at least one day old, not good. The main was a sirloin steak with horseradish butter, very small steak but nicely cooked. Veg were dull - carrots, a few beans and peas. Things like stale bread and boring veg bring the whole experience down. The service was friendly but very slow, there was lot of waiting around for all the diners considering how few tables they have. There are much better places in Somerton area to eat so we shan't be going back in a hurry. I note that other reviewers have raved about the place but I also note that many only have one review so not sure how much credibility to give those sorts of reviews. If you decide to try this restaurant you will have a decent but dull meal.

Me and a couple of friends went here due to hearing some good things about the place. Needless to say 'good things' is a bit of an understatement. It was incredible! Very warm welcome, happy to see you staff. Amazing wine menu, excellent service.

Then the food....... we started off with some tapas to share. beautifully presented, tasty and sociable. Then we had our mains, we each had rump steak. Steaks cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and served by a new friend who couldnt do enough for you.

im booking for every weekend for the rest of the year.

Id recommend The market bar to anyone. FANTASTIC experience.
