I stayed here for one night on business. My room was spacious although a little cold as I couldnt close the window properly.
Ensuite bathroom was large and spacious.
Evening meal was good, no complaints at all.
Most of all the staff and landlord were great - they made us feel very welcomed.
As a pub 'The Unicorn' has a truly unique atmosphere with quirky locals and plenty of nice little touches ..... The staff were friendly with a good menu at a slightly higher than average price. The accomodation left a little to be desired. The rooms were small, it was a challenge to move around the bed. The en-suite had a sliding door (which was a shower and loo with a very small basin) and very dated decor. There were a few nice surprises in the room such as complimentary mineral water, freeview etc ..... The breakfast was excellent and hit the spot on a Sunday morning. A little expensive for a hotel at £70 as we've stayed at better B&B's but we would definately use 'The Unicorn' as a pub/restaurant again .....
Stayed at The Unicorn for 2 nights during June 2007. We were given room 5, which has to be the smallest hotel room we'd ever stayed in. Typically, this already small (and tatty) room had been modified to squeeze in an equally small en-suite.
Minor annoyances were: tv remote did not work, and neither did thelight over the tiny sink in the en-suite. The extractor fan made a high pitched screeching noise when first switched on, which set your teeth on edge! This lasted around 8 mins or so before going silent. Lastly, the room was not particularly clean with quite a build up of dust in various areas.
Food in the restaurant was average, but a little pricey. Breakfasts however, were plentiful and well cooked. There was a good atmosphere in the bar at night, which was really the best feature of this hotel.
