“Beautiful building, gorgeous food, lovely festive break”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

My hubby and I stayed here a weekend in December on a dinner b&b basis. We had a lovely relaxing break and visited bath and wells. Whilst at the hotel we had a walk around the beautiful grounds. As it was Christmas the hotel was decorated beautifully with garlands up the staircase bannisters and a huge xmas tree in the lounge.
We had the taster menu which if I remember was 6 courses, the food was just delicious including the full English in the morning.
Great location, helpful staff, beautiful hotel.
We stayed in the Chinese room which was on the top floor so nice views but please be aware that there Are a lot of stairs to climb if you are on the top floor.

We stayed here for three nights just after New year when we expected it to be quiet and we got a good deal. The best thing about the hotel was the food which was bordering on superb. We were a little disconcerted on the first evening to find not only a rather limited menu but we were told it would be the same throughout our stay. However we were told we could talk to the chef after dinner and order other dishes on subsequent nights. This we did and we had beautifully cooked breast of duck on the second night and I had the most tasty and tender sirloin steak on the last night that I can remember. As you would expect the breakfast was freshly cooked but it was even better than usual. I had a full English breakfast and the fried eggs had no signs of grease and were piping hot. Even for something so simple it was excellent cooking. All the staff were kind and helpful, especially the dining room staff and even more especially the breakfast waitress.
Unfortunately the rest of the hotel did not match up to the cooking. The downstairs lounges and drawing rooms were large, traditional and comfortable. All the bedrooms were upstairs and the first floor was a climb of 29 steps. There was no lift. I have no idea if the lack of lift was unavoidable because it is a listed building but it does not alter the fact that there is no lift. Our bedroom (The Green Room) was apparently an upgrade. It was a modest size room for such a hotel with a vestibule leading out of the room. This contained a second writing desk and the door to the bathroom. It was difficult to see the point of it and it certainly does not turn the bedroom into a suite. The bedroom itself was comfortably furnished but that is all that can be said in its favour. It was cold apparently because it faced north and could not be double glazed. This was improved by our receptionist bringing an electric fire. The room was so dim even with all the lights on that it would have been difficult to read. Our kind receptionist brought a very powerful standard light which solved the problem but it was odd that it was not a regular part of the equipment.. A nice tea tray was brought to our room on arrival but it remained there, dirty until I asked for its removal on the third day. Tea making facilities in the room are not standard. There is supposed to be free WiFi throughout the hotel but it was impossible to receive it in the bedroom and in any room downstairs except near the front door.
Although the bathroom was large it was ill thought out. The shower was in the bath and was not a power shower. The basin taps were separate. There was no bidet. Worse still the lavatory usually took a few flushes to deliver the goods and in spite of my asking about this nothing effective was done.
Sadly, because everyone was so nice, I suggest this place needs a lot of attention before I would recommend it.

Back in November I went on a Festive Floral Workshop held in the hotel which included a two course lunch. A group of ladies who love to lunch were taught by the in-house florist and another lady florist how to make wreaths, table decorations and garlands with natural trimmings. We took a break for the excellent lunch served in the dining room; beautifully cooked salmon with a choice of white or red wine, and then were given all the tools and decorations to make our own arrangement. We had such a lovely day, it was fun, we made new friends, and took home our arrangements to start Christmas early. I thought the day was incredible value at £40.00 per head as it included lunch, coffee to start and tea to finish. I shall certainly be keeping an eye on their list of events to see what else I can go to!

Went on a getaway break with a girl friend. I first stayed at Ston Easton in 2007, when my son got married there. I was relieved to find that the refurbishment since then had not changed the character or style. The hotel is a wonderful historic building sympathetically maintained. it is set in beautiful countryside and has a lovely calm and relaxing atmosphere. It is ideally placed to explore the area and visit historic Bath and Wells where we visited the weekly market - which was very good with excellent local produce.
The staff are all friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfast choices were good with an assortment of cold dishes and freshly cooked combinations. We had the 5-course taster evening meals which were delicious and beautifull presented and the service was exquisite.
The room was large, comfortable and well appointed. Our only slight disappointment was that there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room although these are available on room service.
I look forward to returning in the not too distant future and thoroughly recommend Ston Easton. Congratulations to the managers and staff on providing an amazing experience.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The outside of the building looks a little tired but inside it is very nice, warm and welcoming. The staff were both friendly and efficient and added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. The food in the restaurant was excellent and wines were reasonably priced. The public rooms are large and comfortable with plenty of seating to be able to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The grounds are nice and worth a walk around if the weather is OK. The only slight criticism that I can come up with is that the lighting in our room was dim although lighting in the bathroom was fine. A place that I would definitely like to go back to.

We have been staying at the Ston Easton Park Hotel for two nights to have a break from a busy worklife in London. First of all: The Dog loved it! Very dogfriendly hotel with Oskar, another Spaniel, being Lord of the Manor but open to newbies. The river behind the House, or should I say, Mansion is crystal clear and the surrounding woods are nice and peaceful. It was an overall very english experience- Great Decor and a choice of sofas to fall into , log fires cracking away. The staff is very discreet which is great and makes you feel totally at home- the restaurant is divine! But- well, you have to take a book, or your iPad whatever suits you best as its verrry quiet and tugged away from life.

Our one night stay (and unfortunately one night only due to an all to busy vacation schedule) at Ston Easton was a WONDERFUL kick off to our 2 weeks vacation to London and the British country side. Our countryside trek was purposely planned around visiting a wide cross section of the south England - small towns and villages, historic sites, and off-the-beaten-path locations, and as this was our very first trip to England a GREAT DEAL of research went into planning the trip, properties to stay at, etc. Our stay at Ston was our first nights lodging outside of London - abit of a drive directly from London, but certainly worth the effort.

Again, anyone familiar with my numerous honest, straightforward, constructive, detailed Tripadvisors reviews will know my usual line - I am VERY particular about hotels and accommodations - their level of standards, quality, details, amenities, etc. etc., wanting and expecting (where possible 5 star +) THE BEST (champagne taste), but on middle class (beer budget). But this applies to everywhere we stay and all the worthwhile pre-trip research we do for every vacation.

Ston Easton did not disappoint in any way.

We unfortunately did arrive late in the evening - due to several stops along the way to see all that we could. But having called earlier in the day to confirm our reservations and notify of a probable late arrival - the staff and their greeting upon arrival was wonderful - even if most other guests had already turned in for the night.

The reception staff lead us to our room - abit of a walk and stairs BUT were escorted to our 2 rooms in a small private wing on the second floor - GREAT rooms, period décor, but well kept, well arranged, great beds, etc.

After checking in, and even at a somewhat late hour the staff had no problems with us exploring some of the main public rooms - all very well maintained, comfortable period / antique décor.,etc (exactly what you would expect from a historic home) - and then an exploration of some out the outer grounds in full moonlight. Some great pictures as a result of most people already in bed, and the amazing effect of the moonlight on the building and gardens.

The next morning - being up early to tour the house and grounds in more detail (and more photo's) - we were the first down for breakfast - a wonderful way to start the day... full breakfast, wonderful staff and service (again). Then outside to see the grounds. Do take the time to do the full tour of the grounds, the terrace, and the 'hidden' gardens in the lower level at the back of the house - the bridge, the gardener's cottage, etc.

As a VERY fussy hotel guest - I was more than surprised at some other "reviewer's" comments as to dated, dusty issues, poor service, etc. We found all elements of our stay to be SUPERB!!! and we did book our somewhat last minute via a discount hotel site, and did arrive very late in the day.

Wonderful job Ston Easton Park!!! You made our first night / first experience in the English countryside perfect, and we hope to return soon! A great way to have started our trip, and a high bar to set in reviewing the other country properties we stayed at.

Room Tip: Be sure to take time to tour the grounds and the gardens, see the views,... and explore the public...
