We booked a stay at very short notice, it was raining on arrival and we opted to upgrade rather than stay in one of the turret rooms which would have meant returning to the dining room around the outside of the building.
The room we were given was beautifully appointed, with a magnificent bathroom and lovely views over the garden.
Dinner was very, very good, with courteous and efficient service.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Son number four joined me for my first ever celebration of Father's Day, tempted as I was by the offer of a discounted meal! The food was very good: excellent onion soup and bhaji with a very good depth of flavour ( if a little salty), excellent vegetables with the beef ( if a little tough) and superb lemon dessert. Number four had salmon, chicken and lemon too, all very much enjoyed. No real bad points although the service could be improved - a maitre d' of the old school would resolve the matter. How so? I didn't appreciate not having my question on the ingredients of the amuse-bouche going unanswered as they the chef was 'too busy' to answer, nor being asked who was having what by two different waiters. Small things, but they do irk. Coffee a bit thin. Noisy table as we had the Caravan Club next door regaling one and all with their travels, which is the challenge for Ston Easton. To go upmarket and go for a Michelin or make it accessible to the pub-grub crowd? I would prefer the former, and would be happy to come back to support this!

Went there as a couple last night to celebrate a birthday and was a little apprehensive after reading some recent Trip advisor reports. My apprehension was forgotten as soon as we entered the magnificent mansion. The receptionist was extremely welcoming and escorted us immediately through to the lounge where we had pre-dinner drinks. There was no bar area as the whole array of drinks and glasses are presented on a large bar trolley in the large high ceilinged mansion room. Menus were given and we decided our meal. There were 3 courses to order and we were given pre meal aperitifs.
I had scallops followed by fillet of beef and my wife had scallops followed by lamb and then we both had a dark chocolate sweet.portions were good and we were satiated after the meal.
The staff were attentive to all our needs without being assertive and we had a wonderful tasty meal, well presented,by staff who were doing their utmost to make our visit really enjoyable.
The restaurant is quite expensive but we had a most enjoyable evening.
I can recommend this place to anyone requiring an a la carte meal beautifully cooked and presented by great attentive staff in a stately mansion. It was a great experience for us both.

Stayed on a Monday eve. The hotel looks lovely from outside and the surrounding fields add to the feeling of entering somewhere special. On arrival the receptionist came out to meet us and offered assistance with our bags. So far so good. We stayed in William Pitt, a lovely decorated but smallish room. The furnishings were slightly modern but with antique looking furniture. The bathroom was again small with a shower over the bath but decorated in cream colours with a modern feel again looked very nice. The towels and toiletries were of a high standard. Unfortunately this accommodation overlooks the back of the hotel so even when using the toilet you have to keep the curtains closed, a nuisance. We were provided with a tea tray on request with more than ample supplies but no biscuits which we would normally get in hotels of even a lesser standard. The other major crumble besides having to close the curtains, was that the double bed was actually two twins pushed together. We had the most uncomfortable night ever. You just kept sinking into the middle. We did not notice that the bed was a twin until late in the eve and in hindsight should have asked for another room. We ate out so can only comment on the breakfast which was wonderful. The quality, selection, presentation etc were perfect and all served with a smile. There are ample elegant public rooms to sit in, papers and magazines are provided and we were checked on to ensure we did not need anything. There were lovely bronze statues, which can be purchased and beautiful floral arrangements adorn each room. The grounds are extensive, with a beautiful stream, woods, kitchen garden etc to wander around. We would stay again although disappointed in the room provided especially as we also got locked out. Apparently this had also happened to the previous guests.
As we believe we were the only guests you would have thought that we could have been provided with a better room even if in the same price band. Overall we had a lovely time but there was no wow factor. All websites quoted the room in the £300 region. We got a last minute deal and it was not worth more than we paid.

Room Tip: Avoid the room William Pitt unless you want to sit with the curtains closed or want a twin room.

Ston Easton was one of the Andrew Davis Von Essen Collection and we thought we would try it now that it has been taken back by Mr Davis. We were very pleasantly surprised on our first visit. The staff were very accommodating. The food was EXCELLENT.The setting is idyllic. We have stayed in several VE hotels in the past and had wonderful holidays. This one was equal to any !.Whilst we were there we met two of the people who were assisting Mr.Davis with improving the experience and they were spent some time chatting".Power to your elbow Ston Easton"

Room Tip: Only have experience of "Blue Room" which is very good

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel several times over many years and we went back last weekend.
In a nutshell it is under different management who run it like a glorified bed and breakfast. It is a totally amateur operation.
Take my advice, if you are looking for a speacial experience this is not it.

The grounds are outstanding the service could not be faulted the food very very good but I agree with other guests about portion control . The house does need a major refit I don't expect to pay these prices and find the fabric of the blinds rotting away ' the cleaning staff do a fantastic job trying to keep the place up to scratch but there is only so much you can do with whats available. message to the owners . This is the first hotel of this class that we have stayed in that the manager has not made himself known to his guests that and the poor state of the building makes me feel that no one except the general staff care about the guests and you are making as much as you can while you can.if indeed you are going to refurb then it would be a good to make your plans public. We would love to return but not as things stand.
