“Great place for a snack and a cream tea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

We popped in to Watchet for a look round and to get some postcards and stamps. We came across Chives and it seemed to be busy (which is a good sign) so we popped in.

The staff were friendly and the food arrived promptly and was excellent, this was the best cream tea I had whilst we were there (and I did a good survey).

They did not even bat an eyelid when my wife had to breastfeed our 7 week old daughter (something we have been made to feel uncomfortable with at other establishments).

“Poor service lets this place down ”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We came here twice on holiday this year and both times were disappointed with the unfriendliness of the staff. Everything (and by everything, I mean welcoming us, taking our order and delivering our food) seemed like too much effort for the staff who were unfriendly almost to the point of rude and abrupt. Asking for a highchair provoked a sigh and portable highchair shoved at us to fit the chair ourselves. They advertise a gluten free menu which suggests they cater to people's dietary requirements but when my husband ordered a gluten free choice there was more sighing which just made us feel very uncomfortable. Disappointed.

“Not Welcome after 3pm!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

Arrived at 3.10pm on a lovely hot, sunny day.First week of the summer holidays, full of visitors and for once a 'buzz' in the quaint town, only to be told when we popped into Chives café that no sandwiches were available as it was after 3pm, and if we wanted sandwiches we should use the café opposite! When we pointed out there wasn't a sign or anything to this effect on the Menu, or outside the café, we were given some lame excuses. Also the menu listed afternoon tea including sandwiches- no mention of after 3pm again. Felt we were in their way whilst there in spite of having been there before and had service and good sandwich.
Chives has great potential but sadly we shall not be returning.

“Good breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Good hearty full English on our day of departure to set us up for the long journey back to Manchester. Good food and cheap too at £3.85 plus the cost of a brew

“Great little find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

Went here a couple of times for both lunch and a cream tea. The food is good and portions are large. The scones are huge and the tastiest I've tried in a long time.

The only criticism I can find is that the sandwiches are made with packet sliced bread - a bit of a letdown after sampling the homemade scones and pasties!
