After an amazing stay here 18 months ago, we really couldn't wait to go back. We stayed in a different cottage this time, which was every bit as good as the last one. Cream teas on arrival are a great way to get over a long journey, and to fuel you for an evening walk around the surrounding countryside.

There is really nothing to fault with this place, the cottages, the hosts, the location, it is all perfect. We weren't short of things to do in the area either. Looking forward to going back for another visit, I can see this place becoming one of our regulars!

Just come back from our second stay and already looking forward to our next . Exford and wins ford are both lovely cottages and the larger little quarme cottage which our friends stayed in was just as good. Exceptionally clean, cosy , well equipped and comfortable. Some of the best nights sleep I've ever had. Dogs are very welcome and we did have 3 with us. Will and mai are great hosts and I'm dead jealous of their lovely home and business. They seem to be doing everything spot on, no complaints from us. The scenery and grounds are stunning, as are local walks , pubs and villages. Definately recommend dunster castle and gardens and shopping in the village and trip out through national park to lynmouth.

We stayed at Little Quarme in the two bedroom cottage named 'Winsford' after a local village. We'd previously stayed in South Devon and the New Forrest so exploring Exmoor National Park was new for us both as newly weds. Having had our honeymoon in Mexico we decided to have a short break later in the year where we could take our four legged friend too (some real family time). We chose Little Quarme as its ideally located in easy reach of Wheddon Cross, Dunkery Beacon, Dulverton, Porlock, Porlock Weir, Tarr Steps and Saunton Sands (the BEST dog beach we've been too). We we're delighted when on arrival we were greeted by Mai who had extensive local knowledge and who'd set up cream tea for two in our cottage. Nothing was too much trouble and we were overwhelmed with the surrounding views and how dog friendly the site was. Gates permitted access to surrounding fields which we were told we could freely roam (restrictions with dog on lead for fields with live stock - of course!) which was superb for evening walks with the dog before settling down in the cosy cottage. The cottage front garden had a stone wall to the right, a fence and some shrubs - making it virtually dog proof.
As you'd expect the cottages are small but adequate. There is cupboard space, a toaster, kettle and sandwich maker provided. A microwave, grill, oven and sufficient crockery. The bathroom in Winsford is accessible via the bedroom.
The living area was comfortable and felt like a home for us all. During our stay we met Mai, Will and two of their bouncey springer spaniels, who played well with our Labrador.
Our stay coincided with a wedding, a beautiful venue! There was minimal noise and everyone was exceptionally polite.
We were gutted to have left and will recommend this cottage to anyone wishing to have a relaxing break or intending to explore the beauty of exmoor national park. The previous review of 'OK' is harsh. There is a wardrobe and a chest of drawers, it is important to remember you are staying in a 'traditional cottage' and the price charged is VERY reasonable. We'll definitely be returning!

As others have said, lovely setting and views and friendly owners but the cottages themselves are just ok with one major drawback, there is only one combined toilet/bathroom amoung 6 adults which is a complete no brainer plus no stand up shower only a bath.
Our twin bedroom was very small with a tiny excuse for a wardrobe and water damage on one wall. The doors in the property are so noisy to open that when someone goes to the toilet in the night everyone wakes up.Plus although i am a dog lover the resident red setter can be a bit overpowering at times and has been spoilt by previous tenants giving out titbits all the time.
Would not say dont stay here but do your research and be aware of the above.

Dear bob13159,
Thank you very much for your review, our guests impression and experience while staying at Little Quarme is very important to us.
Quarme cottage (which you occupied) is not recommended for six adults (as stated on our website) as although the cottage has 3 bedrooms, we aware that the size and the fact that there is only one bathroom is not sufficient for six adults.
The reason the cottage only has a bath tub is due to the fact that the bathroom is below a sloping roof and there is not space for a stand up shower.
Quarme cottage is the only of the six cottages at Little Quarme that hasn't got a shower. The mentioned 'water damage' in the twin bedroom has been rectified since your visit.
Thank you for making us aware of the noisy doors - these have now also been fixed by Will.

Our sincere apologies that our puppy 'Fiver' got in your way during your stay - he is now nearly 2 years old and much better at listening!

We hope to be able to welcome you and your friends again in the future.

Kind Regards
Mai

Wheddon Cross is a good central location for getting to all the different attractions of Exmoor. These cottages are right off the beaten track in a beautiful setting with delightful views of the countryside. The village is about a quarter of a mile away and has a small petrol station, village store and post office.

The cottages themselves are well-equipped and comfortable, and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time here.
