We were staying at Holbrook House but so disappointed with the 'bar' in the house and the very limited choice of beers that we ventured out and found The Nog. We only had drinks there but found the staff both welcoming and friendly. The choice of beers was excellent as were their prices and in the end we were rather reluctant to go back to Holbrook House.
Well done The Nog. Well worth visiting

The Nog is a traditional local pub, with the atmosphere and service that has gained it Wessex pub of the year 2 years running. The food is v good and locally sourced and also good value for money. Will keeps a cracking pint of real ale and has a good range of ciders and lagers too. The Nog is a firm favourite and I find it hard to understand a previous negative review. Great response from Amy, if you have an issue, let them know at the time and it will be sorted out. Have recommended The Nog to friends and visitors to Wincanton and they have never been disappointed. Lovely hidden away courtyard garden too. A great pint in a real English pub. Enjoy!

This is a nice, somewhat hidden away pub in Wincanton.
Friendly staff, good real ales and a nice patio beer garden.

Oh dear- I genuinely have never written a negative review on here- or anywhere for that matter. We met my in-laws for lunch at the Nog inn last week having both travellled more than2 hours to meet up somewhere half way between our homes. we walked in to a very pleasant interior and were greeted by friendly polite staff. perhaps we should have been forewarned by the place being pretty much deserted on a Sunday lunch time. Between us we ordered 4 different main courses from a pretty uninspiring menu, a lamb curry, a chicken curry, ham egg and chips and a burger and chips. the waiter ( who i think was the chef) could not have been more helpful and offered to add extra chillis to the currys which we were grateful for. all fab.
And then the food arrived. I always thought that if i ever felt driven to slate somewhere i would want to be constructive, but it feels difficult. the food was completely and utterly dreadful. My lamb curry was simply ghastly, lacking in anything resembling pleasant taste and just swimming in a pool of grease. we were provided with two round cardboard discs which i presume were supposed to be tortillas ( with a curry ?) no naan bread, no poppadums ? I have had many pub curries over the years and whilst I know it is not a designated Indian thay usually manage to serve up something vaguely palatable. the ham and eggs were ok though the chips were just dry, lacking in any chip like quality. and my wifes burger and chips was as unappetizing as the rest of it. So so sorry but next time we meet halfway it couldnt possibly be here- terrible, absolutely terrible

I am very sorry to hear now that you did not enjoy your visit to us last week and have been driven to “slate” us in such a public way, when you could have spoken to us on the day and had the situation rectified there and then. Indeed when asked about the food the response was “fine just too much” from one member of the party. We are by no means perfect, but feel that the comments on here are an unfair representation of the event, especially as you left a tip of around £5.

I am genuinely sorry that you feel the way you do, but would advise in future that if you are unhappy with a product you speak to the person concerned to allow them to rectify the problem rather than posting vitriolic comments in a public forum.

As it was "Beef Night", this was chosen - beef and wine for two at a very good price. The meal was delicious, the wine good, and there was a choise of sauce.
And the dessert was delicious!!!
