“Couldn't ask for more”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

We were spending a couple of nights in Porlock Weir with no restaurant availability on a Monday, so we were delighted to discover this lovely, friendly and customer-focused pub to enjoy a great evening meal. How good to see that much of what is offered is locally-sourced, with details of local suppliers given. Despite being busy, and being a last minute booking, we were very well received and enjoyed some great food. In particular the venison steak and the lamb rump that we chose for our main courses were much enjoyed. It was good to see how busy the place was and how well that level of demand was met. Top marks!

“An absolute gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2014

Stopped in at the Royal Oak for a drink and bite to eat en route to the coast.
A beautiful pub, full of character and charm, we were warmly welcomed by the landlord and his staff. Great beer and the food was absolutely first class - fantastic quality and value for money.
I would highly recommend this pub.

“WOW! what a stunning setting for a pub.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

My partner and I were going to go out with friends for a walk in Exmoor Park with the dogs,
Unfortunately, the weather was terrible when we left Weston-s-Mare, so our friends said 'forget the walk with the dogs, we will go for a drive and we have booked a table in a pub'.
When we arrived at the Royal Oak, I got quite excited, it is such a beautiful Thatched pub,
Our friend said as we walked in 'hope there is a log fire' well it seems there was one in every room, didn't go round to make sure, but every section I entered had one.
when we went in, there were some very friendly staff/landlords present, they made us very welcomed, some country/village pubs you enter, it goes very quiet as you enter, not here, very friendly smiles. we ordered our drinks and were shown to out table, our parners asked us to see if there was a specials board? there was a 'specials' board, it was far too comprehensive to remember the contents of it to tell our partners,
There was some very nice things on there.
out of the four of us, two ordered the 'Soup of the day' starter.
main courses were 2 Steak and Ale pies, the gravy on this was the best I have had in a pub, and the steak was very tender, this is the complete opposite of what I had in the Master Thatcher in Taunton a few months ago, Pub food has no right to be this good, we had the cheesy chips with our main, they also were lovely and generous in portion.
Our friends went for the Pheasant and I think a duck dish, they too were very pleased with the quality, texture, tenderness etc of their dishes.
My partner and I were too full after what we ate, however our friends went for the desserts of Apple Pie, they were decorated and presented in a way that you would expect from a 'Gourmet' restaurant,
We had 2 pints of Thatchers Gold, a pint of bitter, 2 JD's and Coke and a couple of small beers, the whole bill came to just over £95 for all this lot, some may say not very cheap, but as we all wiped our plates clean, it represented very good value for money, blimey, I nearly forgot the 'Artisan Bread', where else could you get this quality of bread on the 30th of December?
overall, this is one place you know you will return to, it's the full package, not only the journey getting there, but the village the pub is set in, the staff, quality of fare...everything.

“Great pub and great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2013

We were spending Christmas week in Winsford and decided to pay the pub a visit. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. We saw the special menu so decided to come back the next day for Dinner. We went into the Restaurant area which had a warm fire burning in it. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very tasty and with a large specials list to choose from.
