We only spent the one night in this lovely accommodation but it was sufficient to make us want to visit again. Located in a lovely, picture postcard and quiet village it is an ideal location from which to explore Exmoor National Park. Very friendly family staff who answered every question/tended to every request with a smile. Our room, which was located on the first floor and directly to the right of the sign when viewed from the front of the property was both clean and spacious. The only detraction from our complete satisfaction and therefore reduces our overall rating by one star, was that the bathroom is beginning to look a little tired. The screen to the side of the over the bath shower is not correctly located meaning that water from the shower overflows down the side of the bath and fills the entire bathroom floor. This water then runs down to the main bedroom where it makes for a very soggy carpet edge. Car parking is spacious and although it seems as though they have a monopoly in terms of a restaurant (there doesn't appear to be an alternative around for many miles) the menu on offer is never the less considerable and the quality/presentation excellent.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Oak during the UK Ironman 70.3, we were impressed with how they catered for the event, there was a special menu the evening before and on the day breakfast was done early to ensure the competitors got some food in before the early start!
We loved our room (4 poster bed), the services was wonderful and friendly, along with the locals and the food was lovely, especially the butternut squash lasagne! We hope to return for a more leisurely time next time around.

We had Sunday lunch at the Royal Oak over bank holiday and had a great experience. Service was friendly and relaxed, the food was served in great time, and the menu offered excellent value for money. Would highly recommend the lobster bisque and pheasant scotch egg, as well as the steak and ale pie (huge portion!). Complimented with a great selection of local ale and cider, we had a fantastic Sunday lunch! Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Finest example of a period thatched country inn in excellent location to explore Exmoor.
The warm welcome from the owners (husband & wife) their 2 sons & staff continued
through our stay until we left. The period room was excellent. The food was very
reasonably priced from the bar or restaurant, wonderfully presented, cooked to perfection.
Would return again.

Room Tip: 4 Poster rooms a lovely treat.

My wife and I first visited the Royal Oak in 2001 and have been each year since then. There's no denying it has had its up and downs but, for the past couple of years, it has definitely been on the up. Comfortable accommodation, excellent food and a good team in charge, some of whom we have got to know well. I hope we will be making many more visits in the years to come.

Room Tip: If you're looking for a biggie, room 4 is the one. And look for the early year offers, maybe thr...

Stayed in this lovely inn, the location is wonderful in a small village. On arrival the staff were friendly and polite, we were shown to our deluxe suite which was very large for two people. The room was clean, the bed was a four poster and there was plenty of chairs, but beware, when you sit in them, they are very soft and you sink into them which is fine but when you are trying to put shoes on it can be difficult.
The TV is challenging even with the provided instructions, but remember that the location is at the bottom of a valley!
We booked a table in the restaurant for the Saturday night, the setting was very romantic and the service was good, however the food standard wasn't consistent and was disappointing in that the steak was tough and fatty, which was a shame!
I tried to arrange for a Sunday paper but was informed that this wasn't possible as the order had to be placed before midday, this wasn't a huge problem but just be aware!
The breakfast was of a very high standard and the quality and quantity was amazing.
This is a lovely place, in a wonderful location, welcoming staff and locals, great tea room in the village, we certainly will be returning!

Room Tip: Room 4 is large but can be noisy as it is at the front of the hotel, near the front door.
