Our week in this wonderful holiday cottage passed by so quickly. The house has everything you could wish for and everything is of high quality and spotlessly clean. A spacious fully enclosed garden provided endless fun for our three bearded collies. We were blessed with fantastic weather - Exmoor is a walker's paradise! There are several great walks from the doorstep, without even getting in the car. Winsford is the most delightful village with a friendly pub, shop and tea room with stream-side garden. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Combe Cottage to anyone, and have already booked our next two holidays here!
How delightful to opening your own double gates to enter your holiday property!
From the get-go this property oozes quality.
The house has been renovated to such a high standard I don't want to holiday anywhere else now.
The kitchen is just as good as it looks in the photos - it was a delight to prepare and cook food in.
The bedrooms have very comfy beds, good sized wardrobes and plenty of coat-hangers - plus they all have their own en-suites which are beautiful and modern.
Although the under-floor heating was on we lit the woodburner in the lounge and it added a lush glow which added a cosiness and a warmth.
Even though we holidayed near the end of October we did have a couple of warm sunny days which meant we were able to sit in the garden with the most stunning views opposite. Our 2 dogs well enjoyed the garden being able to run around in the safe and secure garden without us worrying about them escaping!!
On the upstairs landing there is a large telescope for looking at the night skies - we had one night when there were no clouds and the stars were stunning.
A couple of times we drove to Minehead where we walked the dogs on the beaches and did some shopping.
In contrast we also shopped in Dunster and sat outside and had a delicious cream tea and people-watched. Both were on the same road and takes about a 25 minute drive to get there.
Talking about cream teas, we walked down into Winsford village and had yet another cream tea in the gardens of the tea rooms which was also delicious. It's right next to the ford in the village which you can drive through to get to the lane that leads you to the cottage.
For the younger members of our party the Wi-Fi in the property was 100% reliable which is so important to them nowadays.
I'm now home and I miss the cottage but I will return - after I've dieted!!!!
Bill and Chris were a pleasure to deal with. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to everyone
We recently stayed at Combe cottage with our ten and two year old boys. We were thrilled at how spacious, clean and well-equipped the cottage was. Five star accommodation with everything you could possibly need. We all loved the space and the luxury of having en suites in every bedroom. The beds were extremely comfortable and it was great to have added extras such as a high chair and travel cot. The cottage is beautifully situated, with views across to Winsford Hill and just a short stroll to the fantastic Royal Oak pub. We really can't recommend the cottage enough. Any break that begins with complimentary fizz in the fridge gets my vote!
We stayed for a week with our 3 yr old twins & having been asked for any ideas for improvements by the owners we have genuinely struggled to think of anything!
We loved the space the cottage offered, particularly sitting in the conservatory in the morning sun with a coffee & sitting in the garden in the late afternoon watching the sun set whilst the kids run laps!
The cottage is well equipped with games, binoculars, DVDs & loads of kids books (we hardly unpacked any of the 'entertainment' we'd bought for the kids). The kitchen is well stocked with crockery & cooking utensils. The bedrooms are clean & feel luxurious with high quality bedding.
For any walkers the punchbowl walk from the foot path at the bottom of the garden is a great walk with stunning views. It's less than 4 miles so was just about managable for our 3 year olds. Particularly with the promise of cake & ice cream in Winsford village at the end. The walk makes a great run for those feeling more energetic.
I can highly recommend the Bridge Cottage Tearooms & the Royal Oak pub both in the village for food. Booking required at the Royal Oak I believe.
As a family we had great days out on the West Somerset Railway to Dunster, paddling at Tar Steps & going for little walks from the cottage. We can't wait to come back!
My husband and I and our friends with our three very young children between us (3, 1 and 3 months) stayed in Combe cottage for a week. It is really comfortable with excellent modern facilities and fantastic for children - complete with toys and games for various ages and a wonderful large garden to play in. There is so much to do and see on the doorstep or just a short drive away. We all had a fantastic holiday and highly recommend staying here.
Spent the week at Combe Cottage with our parents. The downstairs bedrooms were perfect for them, especially the one with the walk-in shower. My husband and myself made use of the upstairs single rooms which although obviously designed for kids in mind were more than large enough for us. they had great views across the valley and were light and presented very well and so great that we all had our own ensuite,
The kitchen was well equipped and there is no need to bring anything of your own. We cooked every night and had everything to hand. It was great being open plan as we could all still chat whilst cooking and share time together. The patio was perfect for sitting out for pre dinner drinks and as I think we had the best weather of the year we made full use of it. The views are beautiful and it it so quiet. There is a public footpath at the other side of the fence at the bottom of the garden and it was fun to pretend it was our own property when the walkers went past. (Don't let that out put you off, they are at a distance from the property and few and far between, totally non intrusive)
Our greyhound loved the large enclosed garden and we had no qualms about her safety or worries of neighbourhood cats strolling across. In fact Meg thought she was back on the race track and raced round the property and had real fun. It's the best space we have ever found for her.
There are some nice short or long walks near to the property and the pub in the village was very friendly. It does get busy and closes from 3pm to 6pm as they seem to cater more for diners than drinkers however there is a nice beer garden to sit in.
Bill is very friendly and helpful and made us welcome and is just down the road if needed.
Overall the best cottage we have ever stayed in and hope to return to in the future.
Just returned from a wonderful week at Combe Cottage, we couldn't fault it. There was plenty of room for everyone, two lively boys under ten, four adults, and two dogs. The garden was great for the boys and secure for the dogs. Great pub in village, and a fish and chip van that came every Wednesday evening which I must say was very good. Bill and Chris were on hand , and we're very helpful. We will most definitely make a return visit sometime in the future.
