“The Malthouse B&B”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed at The Malthouse B&B in Alton on 28/29 October with our two young daughters for a 2day break at the Alton Towers theme and waterpark. On arrival we were warmly greeted and the girls had a real fuss made which they loved. Our room was the safari theme room and had a few toy animals on the beds that the girls loved! The room and ensuite were very clean as hoped (based on the reviews I had read previously before booking) and we were very happy. The breakfast was one of the best we have had - a full English that wasn't dripping in fat and didn't make you feel sick a while later! On our first night we went to the Bulls Head which was ok. I was expecting a little warmer welcome but I suppose when you have a double buggy to collapse and get in/store behind our chairs and then ask for a high chair its a big ask! The service was ok but we didn't get a menu and probably would still be there if we hadn't got up and asked for one. The food was nice but overall I wasn't as impressed as other reviews have said. Based on this experience we decided to have dinner in the theme park on our second night. Staying at the Resort hotels is probably best if the cost doesn't spiral into silly money (over half term one room was £265 per night)as you can have a meal and evening entertainment under one roof. However, the breakfast is much better at The Malthouse and with two small children is better to be served at your table rather than queue up and have the kids whinge while you're gone! On our next visit we will cetainly consider booking the Malthouse again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Glad we didn't dissapoint - we love families and remember you as being delightful people so we shall certainly hope to see you again. Sorry that your visit to The Bulls Head was not all you'd hoped for, we often have really good reports from our guests - perhaps they had difficulties on that evening. Our response to your kind comments are a little delayed as we've been away on holiday ourselves!

We arrived for a two night stay for our annual pilgrimage to Scarefest at Alton Towers. Having stayed in an 'unusual' B&B the last time we came up, we were VERY pleasantly surprised when we arrived at The Malthouse.

Our welcome was very friendly and informative, and we loved being greeted by the horses in the stables. They made the stay a little more special! ;)

We had a minor 'run-in' with a hairdryer, but it was sorted out very quickly, so can't fault this lovely establishment on service!

We will definitely be back and would recommend this B&B highly to our friends.

Thanks!

The Malthouse is a lovely hotel located in Alton. Me and my partner stayed for two nights while visiting Alton Towers resort. We were welcomed warmly, the room was of a very high standard in terms of comfort and cleanliness and we received cooked breakfast each morning, All for a great price. Really happy with our stay and would definately stay again.

After a long and very good day at alton towers we arrived at malt house bed and breakfast which is just minutes away from the park. It is a very beautiful house with beautiful out buildings and set in beautiful surroundings. We was greeted with a very warm welcome and shown to our room which was very nice and very clean. After a relaxing meal and a few drinks down the local pub we was very tired and a good nights sleep was just what we needed. In the morning we had an excellent breakfast waiting for us with a wide veriety of choices, we then made our way home very happy with a nice send off. will defiantly be back

Our stay was part of a birthday surprise trip to Alton Towers & the booking was made based upon the reviews left here by other customers.

The Malthouse didn't disappoint - we were welcomed on arrival in the car park, shown to our room which was lovely & given helpful information on local places to grab a bite to eat.

The room was comfortable, clean & a good size. Rooms are cleaned daily with towels changed, the bed made & the tea/coffee supplies renewed - lovely to come back to.

The breakfast will keep you going for most of the day & the range that's on offer will suit even the fussiest of eaters.

Our 'local' during our stay was the Bull's Head Inn which is just round the corner. We ate in the restaurant & were very impressed with the quality of food. The staff were great - really friendly & helpful. The locals were also really friendly & welcoming!!

The location of the Malthouse is perfect with shops & a post office also just round the corner. Even more perfect is the 5 min journey to Alton Towers! It meant a longer sleep after an evening propping up the bar in the Bull's Head without missing out on any time in the park.

We can't recommend the Malthouse enough - you can't do better. We hope to make many return visits in the future.

A huge thank you to you all at the Malthouse & a special thanks to Sandra for her housekeeping & relationship tips!! :)

We hope to see you again soon.

We stayed at The Malthouse at the end of August to beginning of September for two nights for a trip to Alton Towers. The whole place was spotless, the bedrooms were lovely and very quiet and we all had two great nights sleep away from home!! The service was second to none, nothing was too much trouble. Our son thought 'Bruiser' the door minding bear was brilliant....he misses him!!!!
Our son also celebrated his 10th birthday while we were staying there and it was suggested by Sandra, when we booked it, that they could arrange a balloon and a cake for him (which we were to pay for) so that we didn't need to make the journey there with these in the car. We thought this was very thoughtful and an excellent idea. Sandra also asked what sort of things did our son like, we explained how much he collects giraffes and low and behold, on the day of his birthday, there was a card and pressie waiting for him at breakfast......it was a beautiful ornament giraffe!!!! We couldn't believe it......our son was overwhelmed and extremely happy!!! This is such a wonderful place to stay and you are treated as if you are the only ones that are staying there.....the staff all go out their way to help you with anything!!!
We had an amazing couple of days there and will definitely return in the future....hopefully next year!!!!
A huge thanks to Sandra, Owen,Melissa and Ian for an outstanding stay!!!!
Would recommend The Malthouse to anyone who is looking for a b&b in the Alton area.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble with such a lovely review! We're always delighted to have guests staying for a special occasion or celebration. It was our pleasure to help arrange the cake and balloon for the birthday boy and we're really pleased that he liked his gift. Take care for now, hope to welcome you back again.
