“Lovely!”

Such a delicious meal! Good atmosphere and very comfortable.
The meal took a while to come but it was worth the wait. Very close to Alton towers. Perfect for the kids!
The waitress was very knowledgeable!

“Very Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2014

Visited with a group of friends and had a good evening and food.

The pub used to be a traditional pub and the owners have transformed it with extensive refurbishment. It is quite a small property, but the the dining areas are plentiful and we fitted in okay. The menu was just right with a good mixture of food choices.

The food all arrived promptly. My starter of antipasti was a little disappointing and I have had better, there was no bread or simple things like artichokes and the olives were a mixture of fresh ones and more commercial ones, the meat was okay, but was not too varied. My main course of fish chips was absolutely excellent, with twice cooked chips and wonderful beer battered fish. My pudding was also very good. The service whilst prompt and efficient was a little clinical and the the young girls a little shy.

All in all The Royal Oak is a welcome addition to the local food scene and sits alongside some excellent local restaurants and pubs. I will certainly go back and I wish the new owners all the best.

“Lovely meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

Ate here after a busy day at Alton Towers with 2 tired and slightly fractious children. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Had the most delicious baked Camembert to start which we shared and the kids had bangers and mash. The mains were a good size and very yummy - would have welcomed another vegetarian option as the tartlet for £12 didn't appeal to me so I went for the plaice which was very nice though I rarely eat fish. It was 100 times better than the meal we had the previous night at The Bulls Head though would have preferred to be child free to enjoy it properly as it wasn't particularly cheap. Only criticism I would say is that some vegetables would have been welcomed with the children's meal - it was just sausages, mash and gravy.

“Rare Treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

We ate here last Friday and we were pleasantly surprised that we found this place to be as good as other trip advisors had posted.
good food, huge portions & a very helpful/knowledgable waitress (she may have been the owner!)
not cheap but worth the cost just the same.
we will return
