“great little gem”
Reviewed 12 November 2010

nice clean bed and breakfast, It was a very cold night but the room was lovley and warm the host was nice and friendly but we were a little dismayed to be asked what we wanted for breakfast as soon as we arrived as we had just eaten it was difficult to know what we wanted the next morning. the bed was one of the most comfy we have had in a bed and breakfast. the room was to cluttered with nick nacks and there was nowhere to put anything and nowhere to plug the kettle in breakfast was fine with eggs from the owners hens in the garden we only stayed one night and enjoyed our stay but would not want to stay for longer

Thank you for your review which was very positive and your comments will be acted upon to improve the accommodation we offer. Guests are asked what they would like for breakfast the night before because everything is cooked fresh to order the following morning. It is not a difficult choice to make because its either full english or light. Would you prefer to have a breakfast order form place in your room? kind regards Ruth. ps where is your b and b - maybe I can return the pleasure.

You know that you are in for a treat as you approach East Lodge because the surrounding countryside is wonderful. The house is situated next to the garden centre so it is easy to locate. We had the warmest of greatings and right from start to finish nothing was too much trouble. We had a room with a balcony and we made full use of it in stunning October weather. Even though the actual bedroom was very comfortable my friend and I were offered the use of a 'snug' room with french windows and a wood burner. We had this to ourselves. The breakfast was ample and not overfacing. I would highly recomment this place for a special occassion and hope you get the same weather.

First head for the Garden Center as this fabulous B&B is difficult to find not on the Sat Nav. As you drive down the Chestnut Tree lined drive to the Lodge built as part of the Bass brewing estate you immediately start to relax. You will be met by either Ruth or Derek who will warmly welcome you into their lovely home. Believe it or not I was here on business, it actually felt like a spa holiday. Let me explain why! firstly there are three hens clucking there way around the grounds, who produce exceptionally good eggs to have with the most wonderful cooked breakfast consisting of local bacon and sausages, mushrooms, beans, tomato, fried slice, toast, home made jam cereals and fresh fruit together with a choice of teas and coffee all for £7.50. How do you move after all that you may ask, well you walk "Sophie" a lovely black Labrador across the wonderful Victorian fields down to the lake with views of the Football Associations training grounds for excellence. Just when you thought it could not get any better, you can sit on the veranda and watch the sunset with a bottle of wine for an incredible £10 and eventually curl up in the softest mattress and sweet smelling duvet for a blissful nights sleep. Needless to say my wife is already pressing me to book for a relaxing weekend. If you are visiting Derbyshire the East Lodge is a little Gem.
