“Great wedding”
Reviewed 19 January 2014

Our son and now daughter in law visited this hotel and luckily choose it for their wedding venue, what a fantastic choice the wedding held yesterday 18 January 2014 couldn't have been bettered. The venue, the wedding coordinators, all of the staff, the service and the food were all superb, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and every guest commented on the quality of everything, everyone was thrilled to have attended such a wonderful wedding day, which was made perfect by the attention to detail by the hotels staff who were so kind and thoughtful.
We had a fantastic day in January and can only imagine how lucky the brides and grooms will be this summer when they can also enjoy the beautiful well kept grounds - perfect for photos - if we could play host again tomorrow we would Thanks so much

Called for afternoon tea . The hotel was very busy with a wedding party, but were very happy to
Serve us with afternoon tea. I have to say the sandwiches were very fresh ,ham and smoked salmon ,two slices of chocolate cake ,and the freshest scones you could wish for, accompanied. with cream and jam .a choice of tea or fresh ground coffee is available. The staff were very pleasant ,and though attentive not in your face . Would we revisit ,?? YES PLEASE.

I booked this hotel a treat for my wife and I, knowing that the standard of food is excellent. I had booked a superior double room which was very comfortable, clean and everything was in working order. My only criticism is that the room was very hot even after turning the radiator down. Dinner was fantastic and the highlight of the evening, fantastic flavours and enough to eat. Breakfast was superb. The building itself has old world charm and it is obvious that it makes a great wedding venue set in beautiful surroundings.
Would I attend again? Most definitely.
Top tip. Book direct through the hotel for the real bargains.

Dear Gr8or8

Thank you for your great feedback regarding your recent stay at Dovecliff Hall.

I am so sorry that the heating was too warm for you, but as you can imagine being a 18th century Georgian hall I can't take any chances on adjusting the heating due to the current cold snaps that we are witnessing. I am so glad you enjoyed the building and our food.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Kind regards

My Family and I went to Dovecliff for New Years lunch. We all had a lovely and relaxing afternoon and all agreed the service and quality of the food were excellent and the location is just beautiful. We have been looking round for the right wedding venue and this visit confirmed we would love to go ahead and have our wedding here in June 2014.

Just one night, b&b.

Lovely room, warm considering the gale blowing outside, room was v clean and comfortable.

Nice choice of breakfast, what we had to eat was well cooked and tasted as though they had sourced local suppliers for decent quality.

Would definitely stay again, it feels well run and the staff we came across were all extremely helpful & pleasant. Ideal hotel if you don't want a modern box and like a touch of character.

Room Tip: Lord Burton suite, canopied bed, huge bathroom, overlooks garden

I went to the Dovecliff for Sunday lunch with my husband at the start of December. The staff were friendly & attentive. The atmosphere was warm & welcoming. Our food was lovely, we particularly enjoyed the roast beef & the bread and butter pudding. We felt the three courses were good value for money and will definitely return in the new year.

It is a long time since I last ate here so I was keen to see what the present owners have to offer. The building is a little forbidding from the outside but the setting is lovely. The welcome was indifferent - as was the service; such a shame. The food was good but unspectacular and immediately forgettable, My portion of pheasant breast was enormous; far too large and overwhelming. It was described as 'served pink' but that was wishful thinking. The starter of roasted duck liver on toast with raisins was very good, though and my guest enjoyed both the shellfish starter and the lemon sole main course. The mark-up on wines is eye-watering. Overall, this place lacks 'personality'. Where was the supervision in the restaurant and why did the young man behind the high reception desk remain seated both on arrival and when dealing with the bill? Worst of all, why is a 10% service charge added automatically to the bill? Surely this is an old-fashioned practice? Oh dear, it is such a shame that so many good things are forgettable and a few, niggling shortcomings remain firmly in my mind!

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent lunch with us. I am so sorry that the welcome and overall service did not exceed expectations.

Obviously all points that you mentioned are great feedback and it enables me to ensure that all members of staff are informed so that our normally high standards can be maintained.

Kind regards
