“Sunday Lunch With FAMILY ( Nigel & Sarah Clapperton )”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

We travelled to The Golden Cup for a celebration meal,my wife and i and three children. We arrived quite earley, our table was booked for 4 o`clock, instead of this been awkward,we were made to feel very welcome by the landlord and his staff,as if we had been regulars for years. The beer garden was huge,my children had the time of their lives playing football and games, with no frowns or pulled faces.
Sitting down to eat, bang on time we were treated to a fine feast, traditional Sunday Roast and an excellent choice of wines and beers.
To sum up our visit to The Golden Cup,warm and friendly welcome by all, food and drink excellent at a cost that would not break any family of fives wallet.
Will be returning for lunch very soon.

Stayed here for a night when attending a family event. The landlady is very friendly though clearly runs a tight ship. The bedroom is not like a business hotel, and definitely has the personality of the owners running through it. Some may not like this, but I found it quite endearing.
Breakfast was a little early for a Sunday morning, though it did mean I was up an started in good time. Well cooked full English.

Recently went to the golden cup for a meal with my mum, I felt I had to leave feedback as I had read such awful reviews, well my experience was that of complete pleasure, we had a fantastic home cooked meal the staff couldn't do enough for us and I WILL be going back to this lovely warm & welcoming pub/restaurant/hotel again......very nice

Visit date - 17.03.12.

We stayed at the Golden Cup for one evening while attending a function at the Burton Marina.

It is always strange these days to be told we had to be back by a certain time to not be locked out, and to hand in our keys on the way out - Seemed rather like a boarding house of old. Bed and bathroom clean.

The stained Harrods bear on the bed, the lack of a shower in the bathroom, and the dog eared laminated signs absolutely everywhere didn't really reflect the way places should cater in the 21st century, even if you are aiming for the 'olde world' pub style.

There was a small flatscreen TV, crazily mounted just a few feet off the floor, so your feet would be in the way if you lay in bed.

The breakfast was plentiful, but without quality, rather fatty bacon, boring sausages. All eaten, but not that enjoyed. We were told on arrival we had to order ahead due to the 'Mothers Day' rush then next day, so when we walked into an empty dining room, maybe it wasn't needed. The wine glass of fruit juice was slightly surreal also.

The whole place was a little cluttered, a little faded and jaded - The overbuying of A4 clip frames evident in my photo attached to the review. And we never did get our free newspaper outside our door as advertised...

The church bells each hour just across the road also raise the living a lot, never mind the dead.
