Description: A privately owned pub and restaurant in the country village of Anslow, within striking distance of brewery town Burton-on-Trent, The Burnt Gate is a local favourite finding favour with visitors too. Dating back around 300 years, The Burnt Gate is traditional and cosy, all original beams and open fires, snug bars and oak flooring the perfect place to relax over a pint of ale on a Sunday afternoon or to dine with close family. With three chefs in the kitchen one of whom was named Burton and South Derbyshires Best Young Chef 2010 creativity abounds. Indeed traditional pub-grub dishes are accompanied by inventive creations in fish, dietary requirement friendly veggie and coeliac choices and puddings which have caught diners imaginations.

The staff in this pub were very friendly and helpful, and went the extra mile to make sure we had a great evening. The atmosphere in the pub was warm and welcoming, and the decor was olde worlde, almost the epitome of an English country pub, set in beautiful countryside. There is good access for wheelchairs and clean modern toilets. The wine and beer were excellent. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food, which was served promptly, hot, etc.....but what made this pub/restaurant very special was that they have menus for every kind of food intolerance/allergy. Being dairy-intolerant, I am used to going to restaurants when there may only be a choice of one or two items on the menu.....but in this restaurant, I had a whole menu with a dozen different dishes! I'm not used to so much choice, and what I had was absolutely delicious. And they even had a dairy-free dessert menu. And they made no fuss about food choice which was just so refreshing. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough for those among us who have restricted diets either through choice or necessity.

Came here last night for a meal with a few people from work. The service in the pub is great, they know they're stuff and always had a smile when serving

Sadly the meals were not up to 4.5 rating on here. Was told by my friend to never get the haddock special, my burger was OK but nothing special.

Another note was there were a lot of flies in the building. We killed at least 5 during our main course....

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Although I don't understand what you mean by the haddock special as it had only gone on that day, it is great to read that you were impressed by the service front of house. Can't help the files sorry, we have hundreds of flowers outside, are right in the country and we've had a very warm summer.

We absolutely love eating here and always return as it's our favourite place to eat in Burton-on-Trent. The food is of the highest quality, service excellent and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The Sundays roasts, the Anslow pie and fish dishes are superb. Would strongly recommend. Thanks to Marie and her very professional team.
