i had to stay over in burton on trent for two days and stayed at this hotel, the price was very good and included a full english breakfast every morning. the room was clean, comfortable bed with full onsuite bathroom, coffee making facility and TV
I had dinner in the bar and they served good english food like fish and chips with mushy peas, the staff were pleasant and in the morning for breakfast, you were given a menu with waitress service. it was a relaxed atmosphere and if i was in burton on trent again then i would only stay at this hotel, it is only a 10 min walk to the centre of the town.

As a one night only booking (breakfast included) it was perfect. All most travellers really want, is a clean room with everything in working order and this is what we got.

We stayed in the annex (cottage) next door in a spacious ground floor room. However, although there were windows, we could not open it (and I tried!). So no fresh air which gave the room a slightly stale smell. Apart from this, it was fine.

Unfortunately the breakfast proved to be a disappointment for me. Could be because I didn't order the English breakfast, which my partner did. I wanted scrambled eggs on 1 slice of buttered toast and a croissant with coffee. I got the impression instant scrambled eggs were used - extremely bland. The toast turned out to be 4 slices of soggy hardly toasted bread. The croissant was not a croissant, but the image of one heated up in a microwave. The coffee tasted like dishwater, but probably because I like a really strong cup and should've asked for one. Despite this, the service was pretty good and aimed to please.

Reception was also excellent, but although the person on duty was going to get back to me on a question about the town, that never happened.

All in all a good stay for the price. (There's no option to tick a "Good' box, so I ticked 'Average').

PS: If you're into cemeteries, do go and visit the Stapenhill Cemetery, not too far away - beautiful)

Room Tip: Ask whether the windows can open if you're into fresh air.

This sprawling, unloved edifice, promises little and delivers less. From the charmless rooms, desperate for air conditioning or ventilation, to the doleful public areas and the insipid breakfasts. The place had the feel of an un loved rest home without the lifts. One which I commented to a member of our party I would rather shuffle off this mortal coil then be deposited in.

Stayed here for 1 night (Saturday 21st June) and only booked it because it came up as the cheapest, but it was certainly not a cheap experience. From the greeting off the young lad in Reception, when we arrived, through to our talk with the Night Porter, followed by fantastic service at Breakfast and finished off by the lovely goodbye the next morning, we could not have wished for better. The view from our room was a pitched roof, but that is being absolutely nitpicking, we had a great stay. This is not your generic chain Hotel, it is full of character. It has corridors off corridors, different coloured carpets and loads more, but it is fantastic. I don't know if we will ever need to go back to Burton, but, if we do there is only 1 place we will be staying.

I enjoyed my stay here. It's got a lovely little bar with sofas and a big TV to watch the sport. The Wi-fi was adequate with no issues. Breakfast was included and had lots of options. The staff were efficient with a speedy check in / check out. There is a car park on site and you can walk to the town centre easily. The room was comfy with a TV. I would advise going for a room with air-con if staying in the Summer. Recommended.

Room Tip: Go for a room with air-con if staying in the Summer. My friends didn't and their room was way to...

Good location for town, we stayed and got a taxi to a wedding a few miles away. Hotel has a good big car park and is easy to find, nice friendly staff. creaky old stairway from the original building gives an authentic feel. Room in the main building with a bath, clean and tidy, old fashioned homely funiture, wardrobe etc. Only critisism is that the bathroom light is on a sensor, soaking in the bath it kept going out but worse, get up for a 'loo' break during the night and the light comes on and blinds you and the other person asleep in the bed, might be worth considering changing that please. Only other issue was that the 'tea tray' was tucked away in a chest of draws, yes it had a little plaque on the front, but if you were just there for an overnight and didnt unpack, or didnt sit on the bed and look down, you dont see it. We were pretty upset during the afternoon when checked in that we couldnt have a cuppa, I was going to mention it to reception on our way out to the wedding that evening, as the thought of getting up without a cup of tea.... well. But then as we were getting dressed that evening, sat on the bed to fasten my shoes and noticed the little brass plaque, hurray! had a laugh about it. So it might be useful if the hotel were to put a little not on top of the draw for simple folk like me!!! Otherwise we had a good time, good sleep (apart from the light issue) Breakfast was ok, nice staff and a good tasty cooked breakfast. Also as some friends met us for lunch the next day, they were permitted to park in the hotel car park without charge. Overall would use again.

Room Tip: higher floor for less road noise
