The keepers cottage is situated on the main Ashby Rd toward Burton and near to the Brteby Conference Centre. I stayed there earlier this year and it is probably used quite a lot by those who attend the confernece centre across the road. I chose this place after an internet search because it sounded nice and i saw some external pictures of the property. The main road is close by but in reality, its not obtrusive.
I feel that the owners have let things slip a little. The room was reasonably clean but looking a little tired. The windows obviously hadnt been cleaned for months and the whole accomodation area and upstairs hallway was badly in need of redecoration.
There was also a constant and all pervading smell of drains, boardering on a smell of sewage which encouraged swarms of flies that constantly pestered you everytime you stepped out of the front door.
The dining/breakfast area was situated in a very nice light and airy conservatory and the continental breakfast was fine.
I can only assume that they rely heavily on business travellers to the conference centre and assume that these people will accept these standards becuase by their very nature, they are trnasitory and therefore unlikely to return.
The owners also need to upgrade the lighting in the rooms and the upstairs landing as it is dark and dingy.
