“Cosy and traditional gem of a pub with good value food”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

This pub is located in a very picturesque part of this traditional beer brewing town, near the bridge. The Burton Bridge Brewery adjoins the pub.

The atmosphere is basic and traditional with a fire on cold days. The place is obviously something of a local secret - a wide range of clientele are attracted to this place - on the cold Saturday lunchtime of our visit, we sat amongst pensioners and shoppers but also off duty professional types. Not a pub for lovers of loud piped music - there is a strong buzz of conversation here.

The food menu is low key, with a small selection of classic mainly British dishes made with good quality fresh ingredients - all the meat is sourced from a local named family butcher.

I ordered the breakfast which consisted of sausage, bacon, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, hash browns and beans. Everything was piping hot and nicely presented. My friend ordered the beef burger in a bin with fries which also looked very good.

We are certain to visit again. It is best to check food times before visiting as the menu is not available all day.
