Backpacking around the Peak on a very wet & cold weekend, I sought Sunday lunch in Castleton. Looked at 4 or 5, the George looked good value.
Great welcome, "bring your stuff in to dry a bit", "sit by the fire". The lad who served me even gave me route advice for the afternoon (if he reads this, it still took 2h30m because of the ice)
Lamb & blackpudding pie - yummy. Well-presented beers and strong coffee. Can't fault it. Enjoyed the banter about the barmaid's shorts - do not plan a visit specially to see; she has just left for Australia!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- We are a small inn within the village of Eccleshall, we do have wi fi access in public areas but unfortunately to the building being so old and with thick walls we cannot guarantee that wi fi is available in all rooms. We have a large bar area serving food every day and a restaurant for those who wish to try something a little different. We have 6 beers on handpull with a large selection of lagers, ciders and soft drinks. For those who wish we also have a cocktail menu. We do occasionally have live music on ... more less
