“Could be so much better”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Have not been to the Hotel Rudyard for a while so while in the area decided to go for a carvery. The carvery itself as always was really nice, Tasty fresh meat and veg and very reasonable in price. However the staff really let the place down. Had to wait ages for someone to come and serve us at the bar and when they did they appeared disinterested. We then had to wait ages for someone to serve us at the carvery despite several staff seeing us waiting. As it was such a nice day we decided to sit outside. What a mess the smoking area was, Filthy tables, ashtrays piled high, dishes everywhere as well as litter all over the grass. It would just take ten minutes for staff to check and clean the area and the place was far from busy. It's s areal shame as the hotel has had some money spent on it recently but it really lacks something on the side of service and customer focus. The carvery was worth it but I would really question going again after such a very average experience that could be so much better. the hotel is in beautiful setting and a little care and attention o detail could really make such a difference.

Arrived at the Rudyard Hotel on a Friday evening went into the restaurant and had a carvery was very nice. Then had a drink and sat in the gardens lovely setting. Room was very nice comfortable bed. We only had a situation on the Saturday night Sunday morning a couple of youngsters had to many friks and they were arguing which woke us up but the police were called the next morning we went down for breakfast which was lovely my partner complained about the lack of sleep we had and the staff were brilliant they just charged us for 1 night instead of 2. Lovely location so all in all Dr nice:)

Absolutely Lovely place! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was amazing. We went to a couple of other restaurants around the area on our trip as well but this was by far the best, Will definitely be visiting again soon!

I am considrering booking a weekend in the hotel soon.

After 'Googling' carveries in Staffordshire, we decided to visit the Rudyard Hotel, based on its website. Should have checked out some Tripadvisor reviews first.
So, so disappointed with the rude staff, the food hall/ run down conference type room where we were shown to and the long wait to get a drink and order carveries at the bar. The staff serving the carvery were especially rude and barely answered you, certainly no eye contact was made.
My Quorn pie, which (as sad as this my seem), I was really looking forward to, was in fact a dollop of Quorn mince in gravy, slopped on a plate with two scoops of potato on!! Never seen anything like this anywhere. Another customer had ordered two Shepherd's Pies and they looked exactly the same. She wasn't best pleased either! The vegetables honestly looked as though they'd been there for a week and were over cooked until completely tasteless, lank and miserable. The meat, that the other three adults had was, they say tasty, but that was all.
The gardens and surroundings are lovely and it's such a shame that the experience inside the hotel is no where near as special. A big let down so we won't be returning. I can see some good, even excellent reviews, but honestly we just can't understand why.

We stayed here just for one night but the welcome was lovely, the room and facilities comfy and clean. The Carvery was unbelievably great value and the breakfast next day was superb although the coffee needs to be stronger so have tea! A lovely old hotel in splendid gardens and a beautiful setting very near the lake at Rudyard!

Room Tip: We had the room with Jacuzzi bath but all are of an equal standard I believe.
