Description: Ye Olde Rock Inn is a charming country inn dating back to the 17th century. Located at the foot of The Roaches and in the heart of the Peak District National Park it is an ideal base for walking, climbing and cycling or simply a beautiful backdrop for drink and a bite to eat.We pride ourselves on providing a friendly atmosphere for you to enjoy a relaxed drink and great home cooked food.We have a traditional bar lounge, large dining area, separate TV room and a pool room with our hikers bar (muddy boots & dogs welcome!). Weather permitting we have patio areas at the front and at the rear of the pub. We also have a function room and restaurant and for those who want to stay a little longer we even have a self contained, fully equipped, holiday flat which sleeps up to 4 people. Our extensive menu offers something for all tastes, whether you’re looking for a home made curry or chilli con carne or a more traditional choice of steaks or beer battered haddock (made with our own real ale). We offer a variety of meals on our specials board each day and we do a traditional roast dinner every Sunday lunchtime. We are also really excited to offer the unique, healthy and interactive HOT ROCK dining experience. We offer a wide range of draft and bottled beer. With bitters, lagers and ciders to suit all tastes, plus three cask ales, at least one of which is always from a local brewery. With over 30 different spirits, an extensive wine list and a good variety of soft drinks, you will never be short of choice at Ye Olde Rock Inn.We also offer a wide range of hot drinks as well so if you need warming up after a good walk on the Roaches on a cold winters day, fancy a nice afternoon coffee and cake, or just want to finish off your meal with an espresso or liqueur coffee, we have just what you’re looking for.

A 7-strong group of friends decided that a proper meal was in order after some walking in The Roaches. Ye Olde Rock Inn was our first choice and we weren't disappointed. Great location, decent parking and nice atmosphere were just a prelude to what happened next. After ordering 7 meals we enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub. We didn't have too much time for this however, because our food arrived promptly. We were amazed by amount of it and good our meals were. Steaks were cooked perfectly and chips were amongst the best we've ever eaten.

The service was great and we WILL be coming back!

“The New Fawlty Towers?”

Perhaps one of the worst meals I've ever had the displeasure to pay for.

We were a group of 7 with no reservations and were hunting for somewhere local to Buxton or Leek to eat. A road sign pointed the way to 'Ye Olde Rock Inn' and a table was available. Looking back; I wish they were fully booked and we were turned away. A McDonalds on the way home would definitely have provided a superior gastronomic experience.

Here's a rundown of the highlights or should that be lowlights:

- Upon requesting menus a surly faced barmaid pointed towards the wall and grunted, "OVER THERE".

- After a mammoth wait, a rather sweaty faced waiter proceeded to bring out our meals (6 out of the 7 being not what we ordered) Veg instead of salad and no chips with fish...surely that's Fish and Chips 101. When we pointed this out it took a good 5 minutes of our food going cold before we got a telling off by the manager for not ordering clearly enough!!

- Upon requesting ketchup our waiter replied with an abrupt response of "LET ME GET THE FOOD OUT FIRST". When he returned with the condiments order he said "it will be a miracle" if he could remember the four different types of condiments ordered!

- Most of us ordered steak (supposedly their speciality) which despite being cooked as requested (medium rare) was tough as old boots and tasted of nothing...I think the cow was clearly past it's prime! One of the group nearly choked trying to swallow the leather like substance that was served. To make matters worse, the waiter handed out the steak knives holding the blade with his sweaty palms - very hygienic!

- The pièce de résistance was when the server attempted to start clearing plates when most of us were still eating.

Let's just say, if we're in the area again...we'll go hungry next time!

“Wouldn't go ever again :-(”

Went for a meal, we were hungry and looking forward to it...been once before and thought it was nice food..but 2nd time wasn't so lucky! Had a hair on my steak looked like off a woolly jumper? When all three of our dinners arrived straight away noticed all our chips looked fried plus refried plus refried they were chewy chips disgusting! We complained in a nice no fuss manner, the young man went to get the owner, a lady came along to say she had checked our chips that were now sitting in the kitchen and that they looked fine! And that nobody else had apparently complained.....I find that really hard to believe. I said I really didn't feel the meals were acceptable, but she was adamant she felt are food was ok, she raised her voice at me, I said ok then if you are going to raise your voice I will say Goodbye then....and we left! a disappointing evening meal to say the least and after the lack of common curtesy I would never go back to eat there again or recommend that anyone else would! Not good maybe its abit of a hit n miss place but I wouldn't chance it again. A waste of money and God knows how it achieved a 4 star rating! Bye bye Ye Olde rock inn.....

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

Myself & my partner decided to visit Ye Olde Rock Inn today for Sunday lunch. We arrived just before 3pm & the first thing we did was to ask the bar staff if they were still serving Sunday lunches. As the young girl said 'yes they were' we bought drinks & found a table, then ordered & paid for the food. Sat back at the table for about 10 mins chatting & enjoying our drinks, my other half noticed the girl rubbing out the Sunday lunches from the board behind the bar, we thought we were lucky having just ordered in time. About 10 mins later another member of staff came over with a menu & apologised that there were no Sunday lunches left!! Did we want anything from the normal menu? I was really hungry by this time but because I really wanted a lunch we decided to have a refund & go somewhere else. I was a little annoyed as we specifically asked as soon as we walked in whether they were still doing lunches, we wouldn't have bothered having a drink if they had just told us the truth straight away. The moral of the story is if you want a Sunday lunch at Ye olde Rock inn then get there for 12 when they open.

“Would recommend”

Large party booking extremely well looked after. Our organiser had pre ordered and service was superb. The meals were brought out table by table and the staff called our names to avoid confusion. Generous sized meals were of a very good quality, any sauces etc requested were quickly provided. We probably stayed longer than expected but no one rushed us even though the rest of the pub was busy. Will definitely be going back.
