“Our Wedding 23/05/14”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Well what can we say, from the moment I arrived I was treated like a princess, the staff were totally amazing, from reception staff, bar maids (lovely young ladies). But most of all I cannot thank Nigel enough, the most kindest of gentlemen, he looked after me all day. Brilliant!! Our meal was fantastic, the rooms were clean, and beautiful, especially the views, Everyone who attended our Wedding has said how fantastic it was, overall the best day of our lives, so much so we stayed for an extra 2 nights. They couldn't get rid of us ha ha...I would recommend this venue with all of my heart for a wedding, I will say that the bar is not the cheapest, but what do expect from a 4 star grade two listed building, its not your local public house! The grounds are beautiful for your pictures, and the whole wedding experience was fantastic, the conservatory was beautiful where we took our vows. But before we forget, we would like to thank Louise and Shelley our wedding co-ordinators, fantastic job, Grant & Richard..and best of all our Nige!!!! xxxxxxxxxx

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding on the 24/5/14, the room didn't smell fresh we had to open windows to get some fresh air in there was only one selection of each tea bags which will not have been good of we were staying more then one night there was no coffee selection. There was no hand wash in the bathroom we had to use the bath and shower gel to wash our hands, the staff weren't very pleasant one of them said that the wedding was over the top When we went down for breakfast we weren't advised were the bride and groom where having breakfast so we just sat in the other room as we just assumed that they were still asleep, the toast was cold the knives and forks were dirty. The location and grounds were lovely .

Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I am sorry there was no hand soap or coffee in your room, I have passed your review onto the Head Housekeeper to investigate this as this is not our usual standard. With regards the comment "the wedding as over the top", the team member in question asked you if you were attending the wedding as she did not want to allocate you a room which was situated "over the top of the wedding". Thank you once again for your feedback.
Yours sincerely

went there last week for a wedding, spent two nights, friday and saturday, ...set in a good location, but so are lots of hotels in this style, rooms basic, and place looks a bit tired and could do with a serious renovation, especially the entrance, covered in cobwebs , lights full of flies not a script for a grand entrance, bar prices probably on par with other city pubs, but charging £2 for a small bottle of coke is greed..just because your a hotel don't rip your customers off..will relect on your sales..only one person serving at the bar most of the day..so long wait at the bar, although the guy done a great job, think the management used and abused...remember waiting customers are not spending money..so it's not cost effective..more bar staff more sales...beleive me I know..alltogether rather dissappointing place, if it wasn't for my pals wedding I wouldn't even think about going, and certainly wouldn't return, management really need to take a look at the comments make and address them, your not recognised as a place people want to return to and that's not good, noticed a reply from the management that they say they are 4 star, rating, and think that gives them the right to charge similar prices, sorry..your not 4 star and never will match some 4 star hotels, notice ontrip advisor, someone was at the same function and made similar comments, and management seem to have the same reasons..does it happen all the time, or do you use the same excuse..hate to say it but you're just one of these places who promise people a quality service and basically you can't provide it and probably will never do it, one choice of main course..overcooked lamb...4 star ??? another of the many places who make promises they knowingly can't provide, overcharge and provide a shoddy service, management please take note of the comments if you don't people won't use you, if the hotel want's to reply to this comment please do...beleive me I know how it works. Off all the tripadvisor reviews I've done this place really deserves it, and the fault lies a the management...as said take a look at your front porch before you reply, and let me know if this is typical 4 star...PS..the bar carpet is filthy..

Room Tip: Don't think there's any...all have creaky floorboards

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. With regards there only being one choice of main course at the wedding, this is simply the choice of the Bride and Groom as we can provide more than one option if requested by the Bride and Groom. As the Hotel is in the middle of the countryside, cobwebs and flies in the light fittings are unavoidable, the porch is cleaned on a weekly basis to keep on top of this inevitable countryside hazard. Thank you for your feedback.

We attended a wedding reception - we were disgusted at the blatant lack of cleaning in the bar area. The skirting boards were thick with white dust and cobwebs and had not seen a duster in a long long time. The 'suite' was really bad, if you sat on the loo and were over 5' 2" you could not get your knees in because of the bath, talk about being skimpy on space! This hotel needs to be refurbished asap.

Room Tip: Don't use this hotel as its filthy!

I had my wedding here on Sat 17 May.
Everything about the day from start to finish was amazing and i am very grateful to All staff who helped make our day special.
The grounds are beautiful.
The bar prices are quite expensive but are on par with similar locations.
The food both for the wedding breakfast and the evening buffet was beautiful and all guests commented how nice it was.
We stayed in the Honeymoon suite and the room was beautiful with stunning views.
There was a vast range of choice at breakfast.
To top it all off was the lovely man Nigel who looked after me during the day from rearranging my dress for the photographer to ensuring my drink was to hand at all times.
I would highly reccommend this venue to anyone and thank the staff from the bottom of my heart for making our day so special

Visited here for a wedding. The setting and grounds are lovely but the hotel and staff need some work!
Reception lady looked bored out of her mind from the minute you walk in. Same applies to grumpy bar staff (1 person may i add for a wedding?!?!?you need more staff on than that for the amount you must of been paid for the wedding)
The whole reception area carpet needs a good clean - it literally smelt like sick and dirty toilets the whole evening of the wedding i was attending???

Also the hotel bar is an absolute con on the part of the hotel - there is nothing on tap even lemonade, so eveything comes from the fridges. This is an excellent way to overcharge guests and wedding visitors for drinks. Example - 2 single vodka lemonades = £11!!! that is an absolute overcharge. But it did mean that most guests stayed sober! No one wants to pay these prices in the current climate but I suspect the bar is left like this to keep things nice and expensive for guests and visitors...

Overall would not recommend, for wedding or stays. Heard a lot of the rooms are dirty and need a refurb from friends staying there.

Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I am sorry you found the bar prices expensive but they are standard for a four star hotel. The carpet in front of the bar is due for replacement shortly but it certaqinly does not smell. Thank you once again for your feedback.
