Return visit to the "Spread" and again wasn't disappointed. The new sunday menu is varied and good value
If a pub is full on a Monday night with a good mix of couples, families, friends and business people like me, then you know you're on to a good thing.
Good food, good ambience, nice service. Expensive - but worth it.
A little gem.
Turned up here (without a reservation) on a Monday night in the week before Xmas week when our two other choices in the area were unavailable. This was lucky because the Spread Eagle was unexpectedly nice. (We knew it was one of Mitchell & Butlers Vintage Inns brand and have had mixed experiences with chain pubs.)
There was a very large seating area for dining so that the tables are a good distance apart, traditional pub-style furnishings but pleasant enough. Staff welcoming and efficient. Wide range of food choices on menu. Wine list not extensive but more than acceptable. Overall, everything you want in a pub dining experience. Three main meals, two large glasses of wine and four pints of beer for £54 is a very reasonable price.
Went on a Sunday night (often not the best night for dinner) but we were well looked after. We had shell- on prawns to start and the sharing platter of roast meats to follow. Simple stuff, but all nicely cooked and presented. Vegetables particularly good. Recommended.
