We see the Dun Cow as our local friendly restaurant, so we asked them if they could cater for 30+ people (our extended family) for a three course meal at lunchtime on a Saturday for a family celebration. We had a menu for everyone to make their choices in advance and it could be varied to allow for children etc. We had a lovely time. Everything was ready for us, and they waited for latecomers (due to traffic). All three courses and coffees were served quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. Everyone commented on the great food and wondered how on earth they managed to serve so many different meals to so many people so efficiently. They gave us just what we wanted - a friendly atmosphere where our extended family could catch up and chat over a lovely meal in a warm and friendly village inn.

Great and popular pub in a pretty village. Pub serves good food at a reasonable price. My breakfast was really nice too. My room was a twin room with a shared bathroom. Both were basic but fine for a one night stay. Pub staff were friendly.

I needed a room at short notice , and was welcomed warmly The room was spotless clean and tidy , the coffee packets and milk , lots [ you go to some places ,,not many ! ] i did share a bathroom but this was just next to my room and was very clean

I went to the restaurant and ordered a " rib eye steak " got to be one of the best cooked one i have had in ages and the veg was fresh and hot !

In the morning i asked if i could have Marmite on toast with a fried egg ,,,, yes a acquired taste ! Also had cup of great coffee , and a big mug of it afterwards !

Brill place to stay , you can find great places off the beaten track !

Last night my husband and I had yet another wonderful meal at Ye Olde Dun Cow. We are very fortunate to live within walking distance so we visit the restaurant regularly. We both had the special starter (smoked salmon with local beetroot) and I have to say it was divine. My chicken and my husband's cod were both delicious and the chips as good as ever! We so enjoyed our meal that we decided to have puds (which we don't normally do) and my cheesecake was superb, my husband had a lovely creme brulee to finish off a delightful evening. It is so good to have such an excellent restaurant on our doorstep and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good night out, wonderful food expertly presented, warm, friendly service, and not too expensive either.

really disappointed with the dining experience this time round, been previously and enjoyed it.
Friday evening only one other table occupied, lack of ambience lack of interest and a general lack of that something special that we had on previous visits, and for once we felt we did not receive good value for service and food. It was expensive which is fine if you enjoyed it.
I will say that the food was still good but for £40 each ?

Room Tip: food only did not have an overnight stay

Stayed here for one night after visiting Alton Towers. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. We had booked a table for 8pm but as we were running late we phoned ahead to put back our dinner reservation which was no problem at all. In fact we were advised to come downstairs whenever we were ready. The meal was gorgeous and the table service was excellent. Have to say, like many others on Tripadvisor, that the cheesecake is to die for!
Due to the heat and a little noise from downstairs neither of us slept particularly well, but the bed was extremely comfortable and I for one loved the soft, fluffy pillows!
Breakfast again was delicious. And many thanks to the very kind breakfast cook who helped me out with an embarrassing "ladies issue"!
All in all a charming B&B, with excellent food and fabulous hospitality.

We discovered Ye Olde Dun Cow last year when we wanted somewhere to stop overnight on our way to the Lake District and booked two nights, one on the way up and one a week later, taking a chance that it would be as good as advertised.

We were so impressed with everything that we said we would go back to the area and stay a few days, visiting Shrewsbury and other places.

We have just returned from those few days and were left even more impressed than we were originally.

Although named as a B&B it serves evening meals and has Real Ale on tap!

The owners Kristian & Georgie  made us feel almost part of the family and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was clean and comfortable and we have recommended it to my son and family as a place to stay when visiting Alton Towers which is about half an hour's drive away.

Room Tip: Room 1 is a comfortable double with shower.
