“Happy return visit!”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

For me Willow End is a welcome site after a long drive from Wales to see family! I am made to feel so welcome more like a member of the family than a guest! I usually have the same ensuite room at the back overlooking the garden. I can always guarantee that I will sleep well as the setting is quiet even though close to town. Breakfast is always freshly cooked and prompt. My first choice whenever I visit Rugeley!

Room Tip: I always have the room at the back with the huge bed!

We are a group of four and we wanted to check out the Cannock mountain bike trails.
We opted to book in at Willow End B&B as it was so close to the trails.
When we arrived there was a substantial drive for us to park both a van and a car on.
We were greeted by Tina who welcomed us in. She showed us to the dining room where we could sit down and fill in a form to choose what we wanted for breakfast. We were impressed as we could choose from a whole list of foods such as bacon, sausage etc for our cooked breakfast and even how we liked our eggs to be cooked!
Promptly after, we were offered a drink and shown the use of the outdoor garden which was beautiful. We were then shown our rooms and it was great because we had a whole floor to ourselves as my partner and I shared the en suite and my friends had a double bedroom each and shared a main bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and presentable.
The room had everything you could need for hot drinks and some toiletries provided.
The power shower was well received after some travelling and towels were available.
The breakfast was delicious in the morning and we agreed it was to restaurant standard.
We were informed by Glenn that the ingredients were sourced from the local area.

All in all, a very clean, welcoming and comfortable place to stay and value for money.
I would recommend staying here.

Please note: we do not recommend the local pub as it was disappointing! See my other review..

Room Tip: En suite room is excellent.

Hi again and many thanks for taking the time to leave us such a nice review. You brought some great weather with you and we're glad you enjoyed the Mountain Biking and Tina's great breakfast. Yes it's a pity you couldn't enjoy the garden - next time you'll just have to stay longer :-).

Really sorry about the experience at the Horns Inn - we've had some good reports back from when it first opened so may be it was a bad day/night for them (no excuse really though).

But my - how could you go somewhere else to eat Thai green curry - Tina's mortified (just kidding).. Seriously - Tina's a professional chef and can pretty well rustle up anything given 24 hrs. advance notice - Our evening menu only has a small selection of Thai food so please let us know next time and we'll do our level best to oblige.

You were the perfect guests and we look forward to meeting you all again in the future.

Kind regards Tina & Glenn

We chose this B&B because, from the website, it looks as if it is secluded and quiet. Actually it is in a residential cul-de-sac, and we couldn't open our bedroom window because of noise from the passing (and fast) traffic on the upper main road. Also our window looked straight onto a extremely tall conifer hedge, which was quite oppressive.

We felt very rushed when we arrived. We have never been asked a) to remove our shoes b) to pay the outstanding balance and c) to choose what we wanted for breakfast the next day - all before we had even been shown our room!

The room was comfortable and clean, as was the en suite, however, the hand basin was tiny and we couldn't fill the kettle from it without using a cup.

We actually didn't feel as though we were very welcome here and although we will return to this area, as Cannock Chase is very beautiful and there is good walking, we will choose another place to stay.

Hi, pleased you like the Cannock Chase and plan to return. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review however we believe it’s shame when guests say “everything is fine” face to face and then creep off to leave us the poorest review we’ve ever received. The discerning visitor will likely pay more attention to our receiving the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the third successive year

That your visit fell short on your expectations concerns us although puzzled about how they were set – we never claim to be anything other than a small family B&B?

Responding to your points:

Location: TA & our website clearly show where we are – There is even a map? – are you sure you didn’t just see what you wanted to see?

Rushed: Nobody else has ever considered our check in to be onerous. You were clearly flustered on arrival – e.g. leaving your parked car with a door left wide open, forgetting to take your receipt and change, and later complaining the TV wasn’t working when it hadn’t been plugged in..?

Room: You said how nice the room and bathroom was when 1st taken up? That you are intimidated by a garden hedge (?) and disturbed by road traffic on a Sunday night on this very rural country road when traffic almost none existent leaves us bemused. Most of our returning guests specifically ask for this room saying how peaceful and private it is? OK - the sink isn’t that big but ensuite room space is always a compromise in a family house – most guests appreciate the larger shower space. Why didn’t you say that you needed more bathroom space? - You would have been invited to use one of our other larger bathrooms.

Not welcome: We are as attentive to our guests as we can be without being intrusive. You were only with us for circa 16 hours and apart from check in and breakfast we never saw you. We are always happy to chat and to advise guests on what to do - but your probing questions on our home, employment, family, marriage, children, personal life etc. etc. etc. were very intrusive.

In our experience guests are also like reviews – they can also be rated from excellent to terrible – We believe we run one of (if not the) best B&B’s on Cannock Chase and hope that you enjoy the contents of the hospitality tray & bathroom toiletries that you totally emptied.

We sincerely wish you luck with finding your accommodation if/when you return although if total isolation and silence is what you seek then maybe you should consider wild camping…??

Kind regards Tina & Glenn

Room Tip: The ensuite room with the king size bed was great. Very quiet

Hi Pat and many thanks for the lovely review - we're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay here with us.

As you say there is so much to do and see in the area - this must be one of the beautiful and least known areas in the UK ?

We look forward to welcoming you to Willow End again soon.

Kind Regards Tina & Glenn

I chose this B&B due to the option of a home cooked Thai meal in the evening and the proximity to the Cannock Chase trails. The meal was excellent (and in generous portions!) and I very much enjoyed exploring the Slitting Mill area afterwards. The B&B was immaculate, in a lovely quiet location and Glenn and Tina really do make every effort to ensure this B&B is a cut above the rest. Happy days :-)

We know how busy our lives can be these days so it is really appreciated that you have taken the time to leave us your great review.

Tina is always pleased when guests appreciate the extra effort she makes to provide an authentic Thai meal - as it would be served in Thailand and not some 'westernised' replica that so many Thai restaurants appear to serve.

Kind regards.. Tina & Glenn.

I stayed in early may for a few days whilst in the area on business. The atmosphere is the most relaxing and is like home away from home. I would definitely recommend trying the Thai cuisine that is offered.
Cleanliness here is taken to a whole new level and the accommodation worthy of 5 stars. Highly recommended.

Thank you for making the time to leave us your splendid review. We do try and make our B&B as restful as possible and it's really nice to see that appreciated.

Tina loves to see people enjoy her Thai cuisine and as you know Tina is almost fanatical about authenticity. A lot of people believe that they enjoy Thai food without ever having tasted it - i.e. they have only ever tasted the 'sanitised' westernised versions in the UK.

We look forward to seeing you again soon..

Just minutes from the Chase trails this was the perfect b&b for us after a day mountain biking in the forest.

Our twin room was well equipped, newly furnished and immaculately clean.

If you enjoy Thai food then you will not be disappointed, we pre ordered a feast for 2 people and so glad we did every dish was fantastic, some of the best I've had !
Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice.

There is also a good pub which serves food just a short walk away which is newly refurbished

I will definitely return to Willow End as for me it ticked all the boxes for a hassle free mountain bike weekend away.

Thanks again to Glenn and Tina.

Hu Sid - Thank you for leaving us such a great review - we didn't believe you'd finish the 'Thai banquet' - and you very nearly proved us wrong...!! :-)

The Horns Inn is a great place now it's under new ownership and just a short stroll from Willow End. As you rightly say there's no other B&B accommodation that's nearer to the Mountain Biking trails on Cannock Chase.

We look forward to your return visit ...

Kind regards.. Tina & Glenn
