Its hard to find a pub serving home cooked meals, these days 95% of pubs deep fry, grill or microwave their pre-packed generic ingredients. I'm pleased The Windmill chose not to conform.

Home cooked food with a specials board changing regularly providing a good variety of dishes. We find this place is always busy and they have a wooden outdoor play area which is popular with my daughter.

They have the right ingredients for a great venue, they just need to tidy up their processes/service. Chasing customers outside once they have paid for their order to tell them to come back inside as its sold out doesn't look very professional.

Like a lot of things in Life, Nostalgia ain't what it used to be?

At one time the Windmill was revered, almost, for its definition T Bones, Blythfield Trout and Cod specialities.
Now it has a hand written Menu Board of 'Specials'.
Problem seems to be that whoever writes the Board hasn't (apparently?) eaten the special.
If words were meals then fine, but ...... the reality is bland and ALWAYS overladen.
That is, the quantity certainly exceeds the quality.
They've ALWAYS served cold peas. That's about the only thing that's NOT changed.
Now a simple meal ( except for the description) is only complicated by the price.
Expensive & not very good.
These are all relative terms I suppose, but the comparison is there to be made, .... with what was and now what is.
Perhaps voting with feet is the only way to impress dissatisfaction with the current status.
We'll leave it for a long time before we go back. Such a pity?

The staff here are incredibly polite and helpful. The drinks and table service were faultless.
However our meals were disappointing. Steaks were grissly and tough which is unexpected for the price. My dessert was also a little overdone.
Maybe we caught an off day, would try again!

We visit the Windmill every Monday or Tuesday as we are always made to feel extra welcome by Claire and Jo. We always find the food to be of an excellent standard whether from the main menu or the regular changing special boards. The portions are always generous offering excellent value for money. The guest ales are always kept to an excellent standard and changed on a regular basis. All staff welcoming and polite. Would highly recommend this Country pub. We always look forward to our weekly visit.
