My 2 friends and I were on a swimming course and stayed at 'The Plough & Harrow' for 2 nights. The accommodation was a twin room and a single room which was very clean, and suited us down to the ground.

The food was excellent and so reasonable and the staff very friendly.

There was also a tapas and cocktail bar which looked very nice although we did not use it - perhaps next time.

Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: We were the last room from the pub and road, so very quiet although we were in the pub for most of t...

We stayed for one night en route to a funeral the following day. The check-in at the bar is a bit odd and we were asked to pay there and then for the room and breakfast both of which were pre-booked. We had Room 3 as well and echo the comments of earlier reviews about the curious en suite (but it works ok) though there is a lingering smell of frying from the kitchen underneath. The walls are a bit thin and we could hear the TV in the room next door. All we wanted was a bed for the night and a breakfast to send us on our way the following morning. We arrived too late to eat in, but found a super Indian Restaurant just round the corner (Fazeley Park Restaurant). All was well until morning when we went down for breakfast to find the place all locked up. We had even taken the trouble to phone the day beforehand to check what time breakfast was served (knowing we had to be away by 9am) to be told we could have breakfast whenever we liked (from 7.30am was suggested). One other resident we encountered said that it had also been locked the previous day and described the place as a "joke". There is a blackboard outside advertising breakfast "from 8am" (which would still have been ok) but we left at 9am with no breakfast and no sign of anyone about. We left a note in the room asking for breakfast charge to be refunded and sent an email when we got home. The charge was refunded but no apology or explanation was offered. If all you need is a bed then fine (smell and noise issues excepted). I've given a "poor" rating here, largely because of the absence of breakfast, but it wouldn't take much for this to have been a better review - shame really.

we chose the plough and harrow as it was reasonably priced close to the event we were attending. However we were bitterly disappointed with the service we received from start to finish. On checking in ( at the bar !!) we were kept waiting for 20 mins as they couldn't find our booking details, eventually we were 'shown' (in a manner of speaking) to our room which was very small and not that clean, as we walked in we were hit in the face with cobwebs and the carpet had several large stains on it. and the 'bathroom' was filthy. we decided to eat in the pub before heading off out, which was also a big let down, waiting over 45 mins to get our food, which was nothing spectacular at all and lukewarm...
after a rather uncomfortable nights sleep we were up and ready for breakfast at 9, to find all the doors still locked, eventually someone appeared and we asked about breakfast, to be told ' we dont start breakfasts till 10. It IS Sunday!!', being a little tired and having had enough of this 'Mickey Mouse' establishment I snapped back... 'it clearly states in our room and on that board, breakfast served daily from 8am'
'hmmph not on sunday' was the reply after which she turned her back and walked away.
we handed back our keys and left very shortly after,( despite the fact that we had already paid for the breakfast when we paid for the room)
Needless to say I would never recommend this place to anyone... AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS !!!

My partner and I were staying in Tamworth for one night in order to attend a friend's birthday party and chose The Plough and Harrow because it was reasonable and we wouldn't be spending a great deal of time there anyway.

There seemed to be a fair bit of waiting around to be shown to our room - check in was done at the bar and a fair bit of wandering off and then wandering back was done. Upon enquiry we were also told we'd have to check out by 10am the next day (don't want to have too much of a late night then!) but staff were pleasant enough if somewhat curt.

We stayed in Room 3 - the room itself was directly above the restaurant (more on that later) up a small staircase. It was small and basic (with lots of signs telling you what you can and can't do in there) but pleasant enough with crisp white linen on the white, cast-iron framed bed. The 'ensuite' had clearly been built into the room itself and resembled a large box just shoved in there; the most annoying part of the bathroom however was the noise from the pipes, this wasn't just upon turning on the taps or flushing the loo, it was a random and extremely loud rumbling noise which made me jump out of my skin each time it happened... Now back to the restaurant. The bathroom door had to remain completely closed at all times as we noticed if we even left it just slightly ajar horrible cooking smells would constantly emanate from there due to the restaurant being directly beneath us. We also found that turning the shower settings to anything warmer than 'tepid' caused that dreadful rumbling noise from the pipes again.

Though my review seems disparaging, all in all if you need somewhere to stay for an event then The Plough and Harrow is fine, you won't find luxury accomodation but perhaps most importantly it's reasonably priced and clean with a comfortable bed.

We stayed in this hotel for one night, upon booking (5 days before) I asked if the rooms were noisy and if there were any functions on the night of our stay. I was told that they have never had any complaints about the noise and that there were no functions on that night.

Upon arrival, we were 'checked in' quickly and shown to our room on first glance it looked ok but then we realised it didn't have any curtains and was right above the bar.
So we asked to move to a room further away and that had curtains, the bar maid quickly changed our room.

We then went out for the afternoon/evening, on arriving back at the pub we saw the restuarant was closed as a 21st birthday party taking place and our room was directly above it!!
The noise went on until 12:30am but then we had to put up with the noise from the clearing up for about an hour afterwards. Our bedroom door was banging on the hinges everytime the door to the bar was opened.

After a very restless night we were woken with the sun in the morning as the curtains were completely pointless, so we got up and went for breakfast at 7:30am (the advertised time). There was no sign of life anywhere, the cook finally turned up at 7:45am and told us in no uncertain terms that breakfast starts at 8am on a sunday and we have to wait. We pointed out the sign and banner that both said 7:30 and she snapped back that they needed changing then turned her back on us and went inside.

I would like to write a review about the breakfast but we didn't hang around long enough to sample the delights of this charming woman. As there was no-one else around we put our key on the side and left.

Overall, the rooms were very small and the bathroom was dark and damp. Frankly, I wouldn't stay here again if someone paid me to.

I have a very different experience of the Plough & Harrow Fazeley. I stayed for one week in April. The room was lovely the staff were great and I ate several times in there Italian restaurant which was superb. The bar had a great atmosphere I was made very welcome by everyone. I was a way on business but I am now visting during the summer with my husband and child for the weekend.

The bar area of this inn is very much in favour with the fake tan and halter neck crowd, which isn't a problem except that they advertise family rooms so we'd assumed it would be more appropriate for our 'family' needs than it was.

The restaurant is clean, the food lovely and the staff pleasant. But two things spoiled our overnight stay:

One was the attitude of a staff member who looked like a handyman but who we suspect was the owner or manager. We asked politely if the radiators could be turned on in the bedrooms. (It was February!) This was met with a rolling of eyes but also a reluctant promise to turn the air conditioning to warm. In fact, while my daughter's room became pretty cosy with its little portable heater, in our room the air conditioning was adjusted so that it blew out cold air all night. He also removed the remote control for the air con so we couldn't turn it off. I've never felt the need to sleep in a jumper before... His attitude had been so dismissive that we didn't mention it again for fear of what else he might do.

The other thing was that they take payment the evening you arrive rather than on leaving. I assume they've had problems with people leaving without paying, but this didn't warrant them banging on our door at 10.45 pm (after a hard day we were already in bed) to check that we had in fact paid. (Yes, we had!)

I could mention little things like the total lack of bins in the place and the fact that the rooms are like cells, but with a different attitude, particularly on that one guy's part, we could've put stuff like that to one side. I would recommend avoiding this place purely on the basis of his unpleasantness.
