We chose this on the basis of the reviews and that it's pretty much on the way to Alton Towers, our final destination. The pub is charming and well maintained. The owners have tried really hard. The menu is in essence a traditional pub menu. Pies steaks etc but they also do a kids menu and a good selection of vegetarian meals, which is unusual. I had the steak and kidney pie, which was superb and my husband had fish and chips. The children had beam burgers and carbonara. All seemed cooked from fresh. The puddings were traditional sponge puddings and custard, which were good. If I had to find something to criticise, my vegetables were left a little long under the heat lamp. It's was about £80 for the four of us- drinks and just two of us having starters. All in all, good value and a reliable bet for a good meal mixed with good staff and a nice ambience. There were clearly regulars and all ages of customers which is another good sign.
