“Gatwick airport hotel”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

This hotel is part of the Britannia Hotels group. The rooms are tiny, and at check in they add 2 pounds ($3.40) for paying by credit card - that's nearly a 4% price hike. Wifi isn't available in the rooms (c'mon it's 2014 not 1994) the TV is the kind you used to buy for the one in the kitchen (although it did have a pleasingly large selection of channels). good point - there is a full size bath. Buy breakfast when you check in to get a sizable discount, and it's a good size full English breakfast. However, there are coach parties in the hotel (i.e. noisy groups). As a place to kip for the airport it was acceptable (with a rental car though or the coach costs a massive 7 pounds each or $12) but it was a case of you get what you pay for.

We stayed for 3 nights to visit London and Windsor. The rooms were dated and a little shabby in the older part of the Hotel but the newer ones were fine, Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. To be fair we only spent a short time in the Hotel as we left each day at 8.30 and one night came back at midnight but one night we decided to stay the Bar closed at 10.30!? What sort of a Hotel does that? On the plus side our bed was extremely comfortable and we had a quiet room with a good bathroom. On the food front mainly I would say do not serve a dessert of hard tasteless cake and custard coloured water. I have stayed in many Britannia Hotels and have always been offered much better fare than this. All in all we were happy with our stay though and would go back but perhaps on a B&B deal.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the new part.

Very poor hotel, we stayed 5 days on a coach trip - No entertainment, nowhere to go & no sleep . The mattress had springs sticking into us & must have been there as long as the hotel. Same meal every day a carvery consisting of turkey, frozen veg roast & boiled potatoes & gravy, which were all tasteless, same dessert also, little squares of sponge & custard (warm if your lucky) We wont go back unless its to catch a Gatwick flight the next morning as its only 5 miles from the airport.

Room Tip: Avoid 129, or bring your own mattress

This hotel was alright, it really was nothing special. The hotel was presented really well, the rooms were clean, no problems there. A few issues. Well... two. Firstly the bed. The bed was STUPIDLY UNCOMFORTABLE. The floor was more comfortable than that bed. Really awful. I only got 3 hours sleep. The room was around the back in what was an extension. There was a skylight with no covers, so of course it turned 5am, it was light, the whole room was light, pretty annoying, especially on an uncomfortable bed. Secondly the staff were rude (Apart from one at the bar, really nice so well done to him). When I checked in, the guy clearly did not want to be there at all. The next morning I was not asked how my stay was, I just gave him my keys, and then he snapped "Is that all?" which in other words meant "Go away". Both me and my girlfriend were not impressed at all.

The price was fine, but most likely I would not stay here again, its a shame because this hotel has potential to be a great hotel, but the beds need sorting out FAST, the room could do with an update, and appropriate customer service training for some staff, if they don't want it, they should not work in the leisure and tourism industry. Simple.

We booked this hotel for two reasons one being we stayed there 12yrs ago and also the onsite car parking. I booked the double suite room, that is a joke it is a large family room that had a large kingsize bed,a double bed and what looked like a camp bed made up, the windows moved all night with the wind. I have stayed a better places in Blackpool and paid £20 a night for the room. The hotel looks like it has not been looked at in the 12yrs since we last stayed there, the bar closed at 10.15 and within 5 mins of time being called we were told we had to leave, the option to by drinks were given but only bottles of wine or bottles of lager. If you want to stay and park your car at the hotel and there are no other options stay here but have a very good look first , for me I would rather walk to gatwick airport and drag my luggage than stay here again.

Room Tip: Pick another Hotel

I stayed for 2 nights. The hotel was ok, rooms clean. It is quite remote - no shops or other facilities nearby. Breakfast seemed expensive at almost £10. Bar snacks were ok. The advertised 9 acres of grounds is mostly formed of car parks. Its probably best used for people wanting to stay before a flight from Gatwick airport.

It's only 10 minutes away by bus from Gatwick Airport. If you're not traveling by car, the only option you have it to take the shuttle service that costs £7 per person to get to the airport and back. We ended up traveling to London by coach (about 1 1/2 hour ride), as there's no other reasonably priced way to get to London otherwise.
The residence has a huge parking lot, but the building could use a fresh paint job. The hotel is surrounded by huge fields and beautiful scenery (very nice for a little walk around the village!). Being so close to the airport, you do hear the planes flying pretty low, but it's really not that bad at all (probably because you can't open the windows in your room...). The Staff was helpful and friendly, one of them even got stamps for us at midnight for our post cards (which ended up taking almost 2 months to arrive in Austria... not enough postage paid). The entrace hall was huge and nicely furnished and has free wifi. Our room had a good sized double bed with a firm mattress. Sheets were clean and there's a spare blanket + pillows in the small wardrobe. The bathroom was clean but had a faint smell of bleach. Towels were provided. There's a kettle next to the really small, old TV. I wanted to use the tea cups that were in the cupboard under the TV, but the kettle was dirty and the cups dusty. Unfortunately, the walls seemed to be quite thin, as I heard the neighbour watching TV the other night. Reception on my phone was super bad in our room.
We tried the buffet in their own restaurant. There wasn't much to choose from, though. Food was okay (I had turkey with potatos and veggies with gravy), but not worth the £12,50 per person.
In general, our stay there was okay for what we paid. We didn't spend much time there, mostly for sleeping. What kept us from sleeping once was an unannounced fire alarm test in the middle of the night and at 10AM the next morning again...
We probably wouldn't stay there again, we'd rather invest those £14 we spent every day to get into town in a hotel closer to the city or with better public transport services.

Room Tip: no wifi in the bedrooms check kettle before using bar closes around 10PM windows can't be opened...
