“What a wonderful place”
Reviewed 2 July 2011

My husband and I normally stay in Gatwick Airport in the Sofitel or the Hilton because they are on site. But this year we stayed at Trumbles because we were with other people who wanted to stay there. We have been converted. From the moment you walk through the door it is the start of your holiday. Julia, co-owner, greeted us at the door and made us feel right at home. Much more personal than a big hotel. We stayed in room no.1 which has a very comfortable bed promoting a good nights sleep before the long day of traveling ahead. The view from the room is of countryside, but then you can see Gatwick Airport in the far distance, but you can't hear it. The room was lovely and big. You get a kettle and mugs, not silly cups and saucers. The hairdryer was fine and did the job. The bathroom is massive too. There is a lounge to sit in and a massive conservatory. There is no bar but if you bring a bottle, they provide glasses and an opener. I made tea in my room and brought that down as I don't drink. Breakfast is served in the conservatory which was lovely. The tables are set nicely. They give you a list for breakfast the day before and you tick what you would like. My father-in-law asked for an extra egg and they duely obliged. I am a vegetarian and was given the option of two Quorn sausages to go with my breakfast, which was marvelous. Transfers to and from Gatwick at certain times of the day are included in the price. I suffer from panic attacks when being in other peoples vehicles and mentioned this to David, Julias' husband, who drives the transport, and he drove really slowly and carefully and made me feel really relaxed, which is a big help before getting on a plane. He also remembered this on the return journey, which we thought was really lovely. It was a lovely start and end to our holiday. David and Julia are a lovely couple and we felt that they couldn't do enough for us.

This B&B is a real gem and continues with its exemplary services - a true home from home with a v high standard of accommodation, brilliant choice for breakfast and a timely 'meet and greet' service. We have used David and Julia for about 5 years now and so have our extended family and will definitely be back again. You cannot top this place!

Room Tip: All rooms excellent

We have stayed at Trumbles quite a few times now, and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Standards have always been high and service extremely friendly. We live in the Midlands with few flights from local airports to places we would like to go and so an overnight stay makes a good start to the holiday. There is also the bonus that your car is safe. We seem always to fly at an early hour and so miss the cooked breakfast but the buffet breakfast is very good.
We have eaten at the pub down the road twice now, the Nepalese restaurant is very good.

Highly recommend place to crash if you have an early flight. Much better than a generic airport hotel. Very nice and freindly.

No problems with the drop offs. Even the taxi's that picked us up at 4am where good (although they did not have a child seat!! - woudl make sure I ask for one next time). I gather the owner drops you off himself if the hours arew not to un-socialable. He picked us up on the return okay, although we did have to wait 20 mins (which is fine).

The pub down the road served some very nice good and was a great place for a meal.

Sorry David and Julia have meant to leave this very overdue review on so many occasions over the last 4 years so please accept my apologies, I hope I can do justice now to what has always been a very pleasant experience at the start of our holiday and at the end of it as well.
I suppose unlike a lot of the guests who use Trumbles and have a long way to travel to Gatwick to begin their holiday we live relatively close to the airport, we stay at Trumbles as it is a beautiful and peaceful country home and is a lovely start to our holiday, check in is painless and the rooms are tastefully decorated, very comfortable and in keeping with the period of the home, the only noise you will hear is the spring birds singing at this time of year.
There is also a lot of information available to help you find restaurants and shopping if you are not familiar with the area.
We have no worries regarding the car during our time away or making our flight in time as David takes care of all of that in a cheerful and friendly manor which will put you immediately at ease.
If like me you are not a great flyer and do not eat the food during a long transatlantic flight the breakfast which is taken in the conservatory overlooking the beautiful garden is wonderful, all you could possibly wish for in a breakfast is provided.
At the end of the holiday and especially after a long flight you just want to get home as quickly as possible, after clearing customs and a call to Trumbles by the time you arrive at the agreed pickup point your transport is waiting and in a matter of minutes you are back and in your car ready for the homeward journey.
We will always recommend most highly to our friends and business colleagues to start their holiday with a holiday at Trumbles, we of course will be back.

We arrived at Trumbles on 20th April and then stayed there overnight before the owner (David) took us to the airport the following morning. Our car was left at Trumbles for our two week holiday so we had no worries trying to park etc on an already stressful day. David and Julia exceeded our expectations and I wouldn't hesitate it recommending the service they provide. We will definitely be returning next year.
