Description: Found along George Street, just off the High Street in central Croydon, Bella Italia is a favourite Italian restaurant for affordable eats. Decorated in the trademark rustic country style with tiled flooring and warm hues, this Croydon outlet of the popular restaurant group is always busy. The menu is wide and varied with something for everyone. Start with a tasty bruschetta topped with tomatoes, red onion, basil and rocket and follow with a steaming bowl of mushroom risotto. Desserts like the Godfather (chocolate fudge brownies, vanilla and toffee ice cream, chocolate sauce and fresh cream) ensure a meal is rounded off in style.

“OK - nothing to write home about”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Visited recently to share a meal with friends. Croydon generally very quite as was this restaurant so atmosphere was lacking. Kids food was OK and reasonably priced though the number of courses is deceiving as portions for the kids are quite small, certainly for a 10 year old. Food was OK and service was OK though not overly quick even when the place was quiet. I wouldn't go back again in a hurry but would write it off either.

“No food, just bad service”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

Arrived for a quick lunch to a restaurant that was less than half full. After being ignored by the waitress the first time she walked towards us, we were, after a couple of minutes wait, able to ask about seating ourselves at a table. We were told we could sit where we liked. Initially we sat at a table for two, but decided to move because the sunlight was too strong in the dim, quiet restaurant. We moved to a table for 4 then were told quite abruptly by the waitress that we had to move back to the table for 2 because the manager said we must. Almost her exact words! We left. There were at least 3 other tables of 4 with 2 guests. So why did we need move?

“Poor sevice”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We arrived for a late lunch after an afternoon shopping. The outside area was full as a sunny day which you would expect so too a table just inside which we were happy with as you still got a nice breeze from outside. The waiter service was very casual then began to hear confersations from off duty staff that should not really be held front of house in ear shot of customers as I really dont want to know about how you were short staffed the night before. We then noticed that one of the tables that were all occupied was occupied by an off duty chief and the duty manager smoking.
Our food arrived and was cannot fault it as was quiet tasty. We waited around 15 minutes to be clear the plates as there was a waiter change over and the other members of staff were still engrossed in there confersation and eventually asked if we could order two cocktails to finish or meal with. CLEARLY the staff do not know how to make some of the cocktails as servd an espresso martini hot and in a brandy glass. Not once through out the course of the meal was any check back done and asked to pay. To my shock they even had the cheek to add a service charge of £6 for what was to be honest terrible service and given the restaurant was quiet I would have expected better. After paying I went to take the bill which the the waiter quickly picked up and can only presume that they knew I was not happy with the service and didnt want me to leave feedback about our visit which is clearly written on the bill.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Visited Bella Italia Saturday evening and on arrival found they had not got our table for 6 available. We had personally visited this restaurant 6 weeks before to ensure our booking was registered correctly for 7.00 p.m. and also 'phoned a couple of days before to check the time, but when we arrived they said they had it in for 6.00 p.m. and could not give us a table!!! We were naturally annoyed at this especially as it was a celebration and more annoyed at the attitude at the person who gave us no apology whatsoever. However, in the end she managed to find us a table and we found out from our waitress, who was lovely, that our booking had indeed been initially registered for 7.00 p.m. but when it was transferred over someone had mistakenly put it in as 6.00 p.m. so entirely their fault! We spent over £200 on a very ordinary meal and were not even offered a complimentary drink to compensate for their mistake. Due to this appalling customer service we will definitely not be returning to this restaurant.

“Didn't get as far as eating...”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

The place was empty yet we were given a small table for two in a dingy corner. We tried to move tables since there was no-one else in the place, but were told very rudely 'you've got to sit there'. We haven't GOT to sit anywhere, we left. Judging by other reviews, we were lucky we didn't eat anything!
