“Bearable.....just.”
Reviewed 13 June 2012

Stayed here a couple of times for work and have found the rooms and staff to be somewhat variable.

The rooms are quite tired and shabby, although are very clean and a good size. The carpets are clearly in need of replacement and it was best not to look at the grouting in the bathroom.

Some of the staff are very friendly and helpful, but are let down by others who seem disinterested in their work and in no hurry to help customers. Like other reviewers I found the bar service to be slow, and choice to be limited as they were out of stock of most beers/wines when I last stayed.

Breakfast was fine, the usual HIX options, and was replenished and had good options available.

The hotel is fine if you just need room for the night with minimum hassle, but I struggle to see why people would base themselves here for a holiday, unless being completely motivated by price.

Overall a poor quality hotel in need of renovation, but well located for Croydon and transport links.

checked in on the 12th as having to stay for three nights as the Jury's inn was booked. went with an open mind as heard it was bad. Room had a musty smell of which i think came from the aircon. I opened the aircon front and the filters were filthy as was the internal parts of the aircon. I mentioned this to the front desk and they said they will get someone to look at it the next day, but no offer of a room move. Had a beer before going for dinner. Went for dinner and an hour and a half later came back and my beer glass was still there, so obviously no one checks for empty glasses. They ran out of Bodddingtons, however today 24hrs later they still haven't got more bitter on tap. And then came the much awaited breakfast . They advertise it as and i quote from there menu "Welcome to your free Express Start Breakfast. To help you get ready for the day ahead we've prepared a delicious buffet with something for everyone". Mmmm delicious certainly not. Came down at 0710 and faced with no eggs, three disgusting looking sausages and cheap looking baked beans. I went for some bran flakes. Had my breakfast and although eggs came no more sausages. Massive queue came when they brought the eggs so gave up. As with the bar service it seems not enough staff and don't care to keep things topped up. Checkin staff are not the most friendly or welcoming either. I hope my company does not put me here again and I will ask them not to put people here again, as its poor. To make things worse if you come back at night its not the most welcoming place as have to go down an alleyway, and in Croydon at night, NOT GOOD .

The beds are ok, but not great. Its personal preference but i don't like really soft beds.

The Hotel should not have the word Holiday Inn in!

Room Tip: Don't choose this hotel. Go for the Croydon Park or Jury's Inn. the extra money is worth i...

We drove to the hotel as the website had mentioned a car park, however we had to park on the pavement outside where there was space for about 3 cars in total!!! We arrived early as the website had stated we could access our room from 1pm, the receptionist was confused and stated that they had had a few people turn up saying this - I explained that this was on the website and she said it was wrong as the rooms were still being cleaned however she immediately sorted a room for us that was ready!!
The room was nice and clean and had everything we needed for the evening - however the hotel is in one of the not so nice areas of Croydon and we were witness to some rather questionable sights from our window!!!

After our night out we returned to the hotel thinking of having a drink in the bar. The bar was very small and there was not a lot on offer, there were no staff members around and we waited a good 10 minutes to be served even though it was relatively early and there were several people already in the bar!! Needless to stay we only had one and then decided to return to our room.

The breakfast area was very busy but there were plenty of options to choose from and empty bowls were replaced quickly, check out was quick and easy!!

Overall we were pleased with our stay.

This is not a holiday inn it is a company which uses the name so do not expect the same level of service.Rooms are crammped the beds are cheap and parking is a nightmare.
Also there are only 2 sets of glass on the bar wine or beer...?the lift takes ages as it is 9 floors high and if you want to play music in your room forget it unless its westlife or olly murs then thats ok but R&B or any other type of urban black music is banned.......!!!!i am not joking...i only have one good thing to say is i am glad and i bet the staff are i will not be staying here again i would rather drink my own vomit....!!!!

Room Tip: i would look for another hotel in the area with better parking

A nice Holiday Inn in a central location in Croydon, just off of the high street with 2 big shopping centres. We stayed here during our long weekend to London. Our main purpose was shopping and sightseeing in London. The train station East Croydon is within walking distance and a direct train takes you to Victoria station in 20 minutes. We ended up spening a fair bit of time in Croydon itself too, because of the shops nearby.

The hotel itself doesn't have parking, but has a deal with a local garage and I believe we paid about 6 pounds a day, so that was very doable.

The rooms are small, but very well maintained. The staff helpful. The breakfast has everything you need, the layout could be a bit better though as the breakfast buffet soon feels crowded.

This was our 3rd stay and it has become our go-to place when we're visiting London.

Room Tip: The double beds aren't very spacious, try a twin room instead.

Everything about this place was very good or excellent.

Location wise, it is in the centre on Croydon for the bars, shops, clubs, restaurants etc.. We experienced no noise and about the only problem is it is quite difficult to locate.

Checking in was nice and easy and the guy on the front desk was friendly and welcoming as he was when checking out.

The hotel in general was very neat and tidy and the same could be said of the room. Everything was spotless and the facilities were decent for this sort of class of hotel and the room was of a decent size for two people.

The usual kettle, tea/coffee were present, along with a decent freeview enabled LCD tv. The beds were excellent, very comfortable with comfy pillows as well. Very small thing, but no small packs of biscuits provided when you have coffee/tea.

The bathroom was again spotless and large towels were provided, not just half size, but proper sized bath towels. Soaps/shampoo/bodywash etc is provided inside some swish looking despensers by the sink and in the shower.

A complimentary breakfast is provided but we didn't get up early enough to see what it was like, but it appears to be a buffet of hot and cold food etc..

Overall I really can't fault the hotel and I would most definately stay there again and will be recommending it to anybody who needs a hotel in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 9th floor are smoking rooms, so if you are anti-smoking avoid them.

The setting of this hotel is both a blessing and a curse, being situated in an alley at the back of a shopping mall. On the other hand, it does mean you're near the shops! Parking, however, is tricky and whilst the hotel can issue discount vouchers for local car parks, this all adds to the cost overall.
Inside the hotel is very pleasant, as are the rooms. Breakfast was as good as any H.I.E. I've ever been in and the staff were friendly. The shower in the bathroom was excellent and the T.V. had good reception and a decent choice of channels. The beds felt new and were, therefore, comfortable. There was free wi fi in the lounge area.
If we ever stay in Croydon again - and that remains a big if - we would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Given it's town centre position, all rooms are probably reasonably quiet.
