Arrived at the hotel at midday was pleasantly surprised at the reception area. Checked out the limted menu and asked for the wine list. Under the heading of Champagne the were two bottles available, one of which was priced at just below £20. I asked the waiter if it was Champagne and was told yes. A bottle was bought to the table, opened and poured. I then asked the waiter to show me the bottle and it wasn't Champagne at all, it was an inferior sparking wine with very littel sparkle. His response was that hey call all sparkling wines Champagne at the Hotel!! A little traing is needed, I think or maybe a visit from trading standards.
I am aware that generally you can't but Champagne at this price, but I did ask was was told that it was. Overhaul the hotel room was ok the dinner was below average and the breakfast was very good. Would I use this hotel again? Probably not.

Thank you for your review and for staying with us at Holiday Inn Express London Epsom Downs. You are very right generally you can’t get Champagne for £19.95 especially in a hotel. You should have been informed that the Pigalle Brut is a sparkling wine from France. I’m very sorry for the confusion by the member of staff please be assured we have addressed this with them.

Perfect location for Epsom Downs racecourse - you simply can't get closer.
Initially i was blown away as i walked into this Holiday Inn. If anything, i felt i should walk out again and check the sign above the door to make sure i really was in the right place!

The front desk and bar area really does look like something from a much higher class hotel. This however is where the surprise ends. One you exit the nice mirrored lift and enter the room floors you quickly realise the renovation that gave such a fantastic impression upon entry finished with the entrance area.
Rooms are as expected from a Holiday Inn. Don't expect Luxury but beds are comfortable and sheets clean as always. Bit disappointed to not even have a bathroom set (toothbrush etc) in the room and / or a biscuit to go along with the tea making set. I have definitely stayed at hotels for under £100 a night that have these things as standard.
Would stay again for its location IF other, cheaper hotels in the area where all full.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Downs - Beautiful in the morning on a clear day

Thank you for your trip advisor review and staying with us at the Holiday Inn Express London Epsom Downs. I’m glad you enjoyed our racing themed lobby and our location, the Downs are really beautiful. The hotel is a Holiday Inn Express Brand which is a budget hotel this differs slightly from the full service Holiday Inn for example bathroom amenities and biscuits etc. Our rates do fluctuate a lot depending on how busy the hotel is and events in the area like racing. We recommend our guests to book earlier for the best prices. Thank you again for staying with us and for your review.

This hotel is situated in an excellent environment next to the race course and close proximity of the Epsom shopping area. We stayed here for three days and only had breakfasts, of good quality and variety. The rooms are neat and well maintained.

About 12 of us stayed here after celebrating a family member's 50th in Epsom, near hotel. It's a modern building, spacious reception, bar, and breakfast room.Perfect for our purposes: have us stay in one hotel, meet together at breakfast, conveniently located pubs nearby--walking distance.

The room was comfortably appointed, compact bathroom with neat way to close off the toilet from shower section. Breakfast was generous--fairly typical breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausages, and baked bean; fresh fruits and yoghurt; assortment of bread for toasting and DELICIOUS croissants. Variety of teas satisfied but the coffee was definitely lackluster.

One does need a car to get around--it is the suburbs after all--even though Epsom Downs train station is 15 to 20-minute walking distance.

It's not your quaint English rest stop but definitely fine place to stay especially with a crowd,

Very comfortable hotel in an excellent location. The rooms were a good size, very good cooked and continental style breakfast. The staff at check in were very helpful and pleasant to deal with.We used the hotel as a base for "doing" a couple of theme parks, Chesington and Thorpe park, and the hotel was idealy placed for both parks.

Stayed at this hotel for an over night stop, while on the way to a function on the Sunday. It is a very nice hotel.
Clean, very well decorated interior, polite staff and lovely rooms. The bar is easily accessible and well priced and the breakfast layout in the morning is very good.

Plenty of parking and it's free and the race course is a short 2 minute walk away. Plenty of local pub / restaurants to choose from for dinner if you don't want to eat in the hotel.

Rooms are very nice, again clean, tidy and functional, with T.V, coffee and desk. The only slight down side was no iron in your room, but that is a small point as there is an ironing room.

Generally a very nice hotel.

I would have expected The Holiday Inn group to have built a flagship hotel beside a flagship, world famous, race course, where the greatest flat race in the world is run., but no! They've built an economy brand, which is, by the way, not cheap.

When I Googled Epsom hotels it became clear that there were a definite lack of quality properties in the immediate area around Epsom. This was surprising when one considers the money in the area!

The Holiday Inn Epsom Downs is a soul less building constructed from a template that would fit most of these so called, convenience/economy hotels. The entrance is a barn of a place. It combines, reception, lounge, bar, dinning room within a noisy "hall".

The staff were helpful & polite. Breakfast was American style, and poor quality, often left under heaters, which turn the food into a greasy, overcooked mess. I hate rubbery scrambled eggs, leathery bacon and shrivelled sausages. If you want coffee or tea, make it yourself from the machines on hand. Toast from the automatic toasting machines which was underdone on first pass and burnt if you put the slices through a second time. However, although the fittings were a tad worn/shabby, the place was clean.

My allocated room, constructed from the manual of basic hotel room facilities, a 19' x 10', box with twin single beds, a desk which was a piece of wood attached to the wall, an office type chair, open clothes hanging facilities, no drawers, one bedside table and a lamp. There was a large space between the outside single bed and the wall, 5ft x 4ft in size, almost enough to park a Smart Car, which was just crying out for a comfortable chair. When I asked why there was no chair, I was told that in double bedded rooms there was a bed settee, but in twin bedded rooms it was company policy not provide guests with a comfortable chair. Hmmm! Bad. Big mistake. The office type chair was not comfortable and therefore the only way I could read was to lie on the bed, which wasn't particularly comfortable either, so I went down to the lounge to be faced by a group of rowdy business men letting off steam. Say no more.

Back to the room. The towels were of good quality, there was no face cloth, soap and shower gel dispensers were screwed to the walls. The tissue box was screwed to the top of the wash hand basin surface. Oh! My God, who stays in this place? The room was, however light, well decorated, clean, I liked the arrangement in the shower room/WC which allowed the one access door to close off the w/c cubicle leaving the washing/shower open to the bedroom. The bed was comfortable, a must for my back problems, and the sheets were clean!

I stayed here for 4 nights. The outside temperatures were unseasonably hot. The air/con worked well and the room was quiet, affording me 4 nights of sound sleep.

There was free in-room WiFi and a huge car park that I wasn't charged for parking in.

The food was not good, the panini I ordered one night was dreadful, but I didn't stay there to languish in fine food!

A word of warning! The roads around Epsom, especially if you have a car with sports suspension........"Pot hole central", and big ones too. A friend recently went to a speed awareness course to avoid 3-points on his licence. One of the tutors was asked about potholes, he replied saying that "councils looked upon potholes as inverted speed bumps, so look out for them". The roads around this hotel have both speed bumps and inverted speed bumps in abundance. So beware.

For the Holiday Inn Express management team, you charge enough for the punters to stay at this hotel, give them the courtesy of a comfortable chair in the twin bedded rooms!

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the back of the hotel, not the car park,

Thank you for your comprehensive review of the hotel and the surrounding area. The Holiday Inn Express Brand is not always appropriate for all guests individual needs. We recommend that guests research the hotel fully before booking encase we cannot meet all their expectations. Thank you for trying the brand, I’m sorry the hotel is not suitable for your requirements.

Kind Regards
