Stayed for 4 nights. £85 per night is way over what this hotel is worth. Room adequate but needed a good clean, as did the whole hotel. Breakfast was ok and owners pleasant but the whole place just needs a hood clean. Wouldnt stay again.

Room Tip: Sorry cant help you there.

The hotel is now just a large semi-detached house and, as a previous reviewer said, as much a family home as a b&b. The friendly owner was folding sheets while her son played on the computer in what appeared to be the living room, while we sat a couple of feet away in the 'bar' area and drank unpleasant cider and lager. In fact we left the drinks and got a taxi to a restaurant to eat. Apart from the dining room extension it is generally tatty, the bedroom was too small to move around the furniture comfortably and the fittings had a DIY look about them. Yes the shower was hot and good and everything worked OK - wifi, kettle etc.

My disappointment was that I had chosen a independent hotel to avoid the chains but the picture on the web is not what the hotel now is. Although friendly enough and basically adequate for an overnight stay, the tattiness, inconvenience and strange feeling of sitting in someone's family living room mean I would not choose to stay again.

My company booked this hotel for myself and a colleague when we needed to be nr Epsom for two nights. After reading the reviews, i was secretly dreading it, but it turned out to better than anticipated.

As others have mentioned, the hotel is currently being renovated and downsized which means it is now a cross between a family home and a small guest house. I was given a double room on the ground floor at the front of the building and it was ample for my needs. Comfortable bed, en suite, tea and coffee, etc and very clean. There was also free wifi in the room and while not the strongest connection it did run without too many problems. The tv signal wasnt great either and many of the channels kept freezing and pixilating making them unwatchable.

To the rear of the ground floor is the lounge / bar / dining room. The evening meal menu is fairly basic and is made up of largely preprepared food. One the first night I had lasagne (with a bit of cellophane!) served with chips, brocolli and bread and butter. For the second night i had breaded plaice and chips with peas, French bread, gerkins and pickled onions! Prices were reasonable though at about £9 each

The bar had larger on draught....however it ran out!

Breakfast was ok....not great, but ive certainly had worse...nice sausage, but fatty bacon.

The owners are friendly and very chatty. There is free parking in front of the hotel, double glazing cuts out all the traffic noise and the shower in my room was very powerful.

If i was in the area for work, I would probably stop here again....however its not the sort of place Id take mrs Sowie for a romantic weekend

The hotel had been undergoing renovation and signs of this were still very much in evidence. The owners were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. However, the room was very small and the furniture had seen better days. The bathroom needed a lot of attention - shower head loose, sink cracked and pipes needing to be boxed in. We could not get a WiFi connection on our laptop and the television reception was poor. I would agree with a previous reviewer that it was more of a B & B than a hotel. However, the location was excellent for our purposes.

We deceided to stay here as it was a 10 minute walk to our wedding venue...we arrived at 9 in the evening from cornwall,to be greeted with a skip and a mattress in the carpark...after a moment of disgust we walked in to a guy who i feel we had interupted his tv program, showing us our room....we were on the ground floor as we requested it to be close to my mum who was elderly and couldnt make the stairs as there was no lift.We entered the room and it felt like someones small front room.the curtains was a struggle to close, and in the morning when we finally opened them we said hello to the builders. There was one cup to make a coffee, there was lights missing in the ceiling, which probably was a blessing as we couldnt see the cobwebs..the ensuite was so small, and the toilet hadnt been flushed from the visitors before us.The breakfast was so greasy, and they didnt even have brown bread!I have to say the best thing about our stay was the shower and that was it!!!!!!

i went to the hotel with my 2 year old daughter as our house was being decorated. upon arrival i was greeted to an ok welcome. the man gave me my keys and left me to struggle up a steep flight of stairs with a young child, and my bags. once in my room i felt trapped,no space 2 single beds didnt leave much space for a 2 year old to move around. trying to get her asleep was absolutely impossible, noise from the rooms next door (loud tv's , door banging) the hotel owners screaming grandkids downstairs made it very hard to relax here. finally got her down so i decided to go & have a shower...i was greeted to the most disgusting shower ever.i couldnt go in it as i was too scared i will catch some disease.after giving it another hour & my daughter kept waking up i decided to up & leave.no way was i spending a whole night there. waited 20 mins ringing the bell at reception before anybody came to me,then after explaining i was leaving i was still charged the full £92.50... i will definately warn people off this place.how they are still open i do not know.

Room Tip: dont stay here at all!

After our accommodation was cancelled on us in Portsmouth we were left stranded and lost and in need of a place to stay. We stumbled across this small and friendly place and the owners were more than happy to take us in for the night. This place was comfortable albeit the rooms were rather cramped. It had all the comforts that we required, a small private en-suite, hair dryer and a roof over our heads. This seems rather typical of UK and European accommodation. The breakfast was great, full English and buffet style with cereals and drinks. The owners could not have been more helpful and friendly - giving us advice on how to deal with our Portsmouth accommodation troubles and helping us call ahead for our next night's accommodation. I would call this establishment a B&B rather than a hotel, and if you are looking for friendly hospitality and somewhere warm to stay, this is the place.
