“Good hotel”

It is a good hotel with a very nice bar. Make sure you go for one of the referbished rooms as these are much better than the others.
Breakfast is good and staff friendly.
The location is great to explore Farnham

This is a big old coaching inn in the centre of Farnham which looks quite picturesque from the outside but suffers from many of the drawbacks of such places.

It’s old, so there’s no gym, pool or other such facilities. It’s also pretty worn and in need of refurbishment; even though the bar and main building are 17th century that’s not really an excuse for the carpets being worn and threadbare and the furniture being so beaten. Almost inevitably with so many quaint nooks it’s also pretty dusty and dirty in the hidden corners.

To make the most of the building the owners have tacked a 3-storey concrete accommodation block on the back so although the public rooms are old and quaint, the rest of it is like a 1980s barrack block; large grey and very...uniform.

The bedrooms were also pretty worn with torn wallpaper, cracks in the walls and plenty of signs of years of use – but they were otherwise of a reasonable size and comfortable enough even if the colour schemes (off grey?) could be nauseous. The TV is just the usual 5 terrestrial channels (not all of which were tuned) plus Sky 1.

It’s largely staffed by spotty-faced youngsters who try hard but really haven’t got the experience or training to do the job properly.

Parking is difficult with relatively few places and with very narrow access at some points.
Very nice gardens and courtyard, easy access to town, shops, restaurants, castle.
Breakfast: Fine, good selection of cooked/cererals/fruit & yoghurt etc. Dinner; we just ate in the bar which had the usual burgers, BLT, chips etc.

All in all, it would be a reasonable 2-3 star place if they refurbished it and upgraded its staff.

I stayed to attend a wedding nearby. The hotel is in the process of being refurbished and the communal areas are really quite nice. The hotel has lovely gardens, which we took full advantage of because the weather was so good.

We were allocated a room on the 3rd floor, whihc had not been refurbished. It was unberably hot and the room really was in need of an update. We got through the first night but my Mum, who isn't great in the heat, couldn't cope. She asked reception if she could be moved and we were upgraded to an executive room on the ground floor without any hesitation.

Definitely request a ground floor executive room as its definitely worth that bit extra. Overall we found the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful and the location perfect.

Haven't stayed here for a while but what a wonderful surprise. We stayed in one of their executive rooms and it was lovely. The room was clean and they had really lovely soft towels. As we were there to relax, the silence was golden.
As the hotel is so near the town, just a walk away, it was easy to take a stroll when you pleased without worrying about transport. As there are so many lovely restaurants in Farnham we ate out each night so can't comment on the hotel's food. Would we go back? Of course!!

Stayed here for a month in the executive room and enjoyed the town of Farnham as a base. There are a lot of nice restaurants and pubs at the doorstep of the hotel. The staff is an international mix with limited knowledge of the area. The hotel itself is quite charming with its history. There is no need to eat dinner at the hotel as I saw limited guests take their dinner at the Bush with the abundant choices in the town. Breakfast which was provided in my rate was sufficient with a good mix of hot and cold items.

My company booked me in here as I was training at the HO in Farnham (and while this comment is not germane to the hotel review, what a dump Farnham is, BTW).

The hotel is a very old building, and as seems to be norm, a bit of a rabbit warren. My room was 3xx and of course no lift, so lugging baggage to and from the room was fun.

I was glad my room was on the top floor as the floors all creaked spectacularly and in particular a spot just by my bathroom door was above average creakiness, so the poor guy below me must have really been driven nuts.

The bathroom was OK, clean enough and the toiletries quite respectable. Overall the room was fine, yes, a small, old TV but I wasn't there to watch TV, and it had a trouser press so I could stay looking sharp...

Breakfast was buffet style, good selection, and the service was pretty efficient and the staff quite pleasant.

Drinks in the bar a few times during the week, honourable mention to the wines by glass offerings.

The hotel seems popular with airlines and cabin crew, so on occasion the scenery was quite pleasant.

I will likely be back as I will be going to HO again later in the year, but as to whether I would stay there on my own dollar, I am not sure. If I absolutely *had* to be in Farnham for something, probably yes, but perhaps due to a lack of alternatives. Handy for Sainsbury's though...

Stayed here in August for a wedding I was attending near Farnham. The hotel is nothing spectacular, but perfectly reasonable. Has ample parking, staff are friendly and the bar area is nice. Also has some decent gardens that are pleasant to sit in.

If you want a reasonably priced hotel in Farnham with decent amenities then this one will do the trick!

  • Liked — Reasonably priced, decent surroundings
  • Disliked — Rooms a little dated.
