“Peaceful holiday in lovely surroundings”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

We booked a Sturt Lodge at Tilford Woods during our summer holidays last minute. It exceeded all of our expectations... We have stayed at Hoseasons lodges before, but this one was much more spacious and luxurious than what we have grown accustomed to! The Duke of Cambridge is a great pub/restaurant within walking distance. We have enjoyed quite a few delicious meals here! Also there are many nice things to explore in the area, such as the Bird Park, Alice Holt Forest, and the Frensham Ponds. For grocery shopping we recommend the wonderful farm shop at the Frensham Garden Centre.

My wife and I have been to Tilford Woods a few times, this time we stayed in one of the more luxury lodged with sauna and Jacuzzi (which was in fact a large ish bath with water jets but pleasant all the same), the sauna was wonderful, generally the standard of the lodge was very good, with utensils, plates, cups glasses and cutlery all on hand, even a cafetiere was available for my daily fix of caffeine, the lodge has free sat, with a reasonable variety of channels (the DVD player was broken however). The lodge inside was very clean and well appointed.

The resort let themselves down in two areas however, firstly the balcony area was not clean (cob web covered) and the paint on the decking, chairs and table were all peeling and in a stage of disrepair.

The internet connection was very poor. At some times during the say there was no connection, at other times choppy. What really irritated me was that any streaming site (i.e. BBC News, CNN, you tube etc) are blocked, if you like to walk the dog whilst listening to pod casts as I do, forget it, downloading is blocked also.

I raised a complaint the first day of my stay (noting that they advertised the site as having wi fi and noting previous related complaints on trip advisor), I got a response three days later (day four of a seven night stay), which simply said that they had "been problems", undeterred I asked that my complaint actually be addressed, but no substantive response was provided.

I noted that according to the U switch web site, a good broad band speed is available in the area (contrary to what was said in the ring binder left in the lodge), so it seems that the site have decided to give a poor wi fi service for commercial reasons, thankfully this was a family holiday, but were i staying at Tilford Woods on business (and given the very poor phone signal in the area), the poor wi fi would have sadly been a deal breaker.

Generally good, but areas for improvement need to be addressed rather than ignored.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review on your stay at Tilford Woods. Customer satisfaction is very important to us and we are sorry that your complaint regarding the wifi was not dealt with more efficiently. Our IT department have been working to resolve the wifi issues and in mid September fibre optic broadband will be installed at Tilford Woods which will improve the service greatly for all our guests. The cleaning issues have been reported to our cleaning company and next we week new furniture will be delivered for the decking areas of all the lodges. Can we, once again, apologise for your stay not living up to expectations.

As an American, I didn't know what to expect, as I've never stayed at a luxury campground.

I was nicely surprised. The whole place is very romantic. The setting, the wildlife and grounds were spectacular. The little wooden bridge was out of a storybook. super quiet location. My cabin was completely remodeled and top notch. Great water pressure,

On the neg: The smaller room is really tiny; with not even a mirror. Biggest complaint: no screens on the windows, which I suppose is a European thing but I'll never know why. It was quite a bit cooler here than in the city, but still hot this particular week. Sleeping with an open window would have been heaven but I was afraid of bugs and birds joining me in bed. I would have also welcomed a fan.

Nearby Duke of Cambridge pub was very good and service was great.

Room Tip: Cabin #27 had excellent wi-fi provided by the management (not all cabins do). That location was ver...

This is our second time at Tilford Woods - we always get a Cobbett Traditional because of the Hot Tub - for what you get, we think it is very good value for money.

The surrounding woodlands are also stunning and we went for daily trail runs for about an hour. As always, the lodge itself is beautiful, clean, stocked (as in kitchenware, towels, bedding etc) very well and has everything you need. Staff are excellent and friendly.

The ONLY things (and it still won't stop me from wanting to come back) is that the hot tub now needs to have a temperature reading three times a day. From what we could make out, this meant that someone was going to come round and physically check the temperature. This was annoying, we are the sort of people that like to spend all day in and out of the tub at our own leisure and don't want to 'time' these things or be checking the clock. Secondly, the wifi reception/service is very very bad/slow and even things like Netflix and YouTube were blocked. We took our iPads with us as we wanted to watch some movies etc but couldn't. One of us had a lot of admin work to do on a Sunday for a last minute interview and couldn't even get into emails - or would then finally get in and then the system would freeze and you have to start again. I appreciate that many people want to come to Tilford to get 'off the grid' but we needed a wifi service. That's it, temperature checking and wireless service - but I still went back home raving about the place to family and friends and will re book for sure. I love it here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a positive review on your recent stay with here at Tilford Woods. We are so glad you had a good time and found the lodge well equipped. Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately the hot tubs have to be tested regularly as part of health and safety regulations and I’m sure you will appreciate the importance of ensuring they are running safely for guests. We are looking into the wifi situation at the moment to see how it can be improved. Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you back at Tilford Woods soon.

This was a wonderful place to stay it had all we needed for our four night break, the pub's for lunch or dinner were quite satisfactory especially the Spotted Cow at Lower Bourne, we had lunch at The Donkey at Elstead in their conservatory which was also nice but the entrance to the car park is a bit awkward.
Downside if you want to visit places of interest you need to go further afield it is really a walkers paradise.

We really appreciate you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Tilford Woods. Your feedback is very important to us. We are very lucky to have so many lovely country pubs nearby where guests can enjoy a meal. The area is very popular with walkers but there are quite a number of interesting places nearby. We now have a large selection of new leaflets on local attractions and places of interest for guests who would prefer not to travel too far afield. Thank you again and we hope that you will pay us a return visit.
