“Lunch - ok food, good interiors”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2013

Had the Piri chicken burger and pork chops. Chicken was too dry and almost inedible. Pork chops were good. But the veggies served with them were straight out of the freezer and microwaved, not great. On the whole pretty disappointed with the food, for the price paid.

Interiors are great English Pub'ish. Good verity of board games to keep yourself occupied.

On the whole 3 stars is being over generous, tending towards 2 stars actually.

Would not recommend, unless you dont have too much of a choice.

Around 30.00 GBP for a couple with drinks.

Attended the pub on New Years Eve party at the Mulberry and was informed there was a party going on til 4am so there would be loud music and it would be probably best a buy a ticket. Not a problem, I did and it was great.
Attempted to go to bed at 5am after a few drinks and celebrations.
Our room was next door to a room that appeared to be living quarters of the landlord/workers.
At 5:30am loud music and general stomping through the corridors preceded outside our room until approximately 11am when we left. WITHOUT SLEEP.
Tired and not particularly happy with the staff for keeping us awake we then struggled to move our cars as they were blocked in by the party goers, who were either now not in the building as they had started to go home/were unconscious I assume.

Followed this up with an email to the manager who came back with defensive emails about us being warned about the party in the pub. That's fine I said, I was complaining about the party afterwards with all manner of things going on.
Only person who helped us in the morning move the cars, or attempt to was the lovely cleaner as all others were not answering their phones to help.

NO refund of lack of sleep or apology was given for the staff party, as in essence the staff were allowed to blow off some steam after working hard, regardless of who was staying in the hostel, paying or not.

In short, stay for a drink, never any longer.

I'm not a fan of leaving bad reviews for anyone but unfortunately due to the service received from The Mulberry on New Years Eve I feel obliged to do so on this occasion.

A group of us were visiting a friend in Farnham for a New Years Eve house party and were told this would be a cheap place to stay. It is a hostel less than five mins walk from where we were going so we weren't expecting 5* luxury, but just needed a place to lay our heads for a couple of hours before driving back the next day.

Upon arrival to the Mulberry we were informed that they were having a NYE party that would be on until 4am and as we were stopping at the hostel we would have to purchase tickets to attend. This was due to "licensing". However, we were not planning on attending this party and were never informed of it when booking over the phone. It wasn't until we arrived that we were told about this and it would be £15pp. As it was going to be a hassle to find somewhere else to stay we decided that we would bite the bullet and attend.

This was actually a fun evening and for entertainment the pub was a great venue. However the problems then started at 4am once the party was over in the pub and we wearily went to get some rest. Next to our hostel rooms was an apartment which was then the host venue for an after party for the staff and friends until 11am the next day. Needless to say, with people wandering the halls, people screaming and shouting and music blasting, we didn't get any sleep at all. At the time I assumed it was other hostel guests, hence why I didn't say anything.

However, when I found out that it was staff as I went to leave the next morning I wasn't happy. And to make things worse, the same staff that were "partying hard" upstairs had blocked our cars in, which prevented us from leaving. After no sleep we tried to find the owners of the vehicles to move them. No apologies were made from the incoherent staff who had been partying all night, and to make things worse the owners car was the one blocking everyone in and they were nowhere to be seen.

Following a very disappointing experience with The Mulberry I called to speak to the owner upon my return home but was told that he had been worse for wear new years eve and they were unsure when he would be back. I left a message for him asking him to call back, and then did so again a day later. After 4 days I still hadn't heard anything and eventually a friend of mine who had emailed them received a reply basically refusing any blame and stating that we should have expected a noisy stay as it is a hostel above a pub.

Following a couple of emails from our party, the owner wouldn't accept any responsibility for the way the staff behaved on NYE. We understand people want to have a party but if that was the case the hostel rooms should never have been sold and as they were then the party should have gone elsewhere. Also, when booking the rooms over the phone we should have been told about the party and the purchase of tickets.

It seems that the owner doesn't like criticism and is unwilling to refund or compensate guests who have had a poor experience. Not even a good will gesture of any sort was offered. Such a shame as the pub is actually ok. But the overall experience has left a bitter taste in our mouths. It seems that the customers just aren't important these days.

Impromptu visit found a stylish bar, fun staff and imaginative menu; Langhams and Hogs Back in the cellar, and well-kept, too. Attentive, understated service saw us served quickly and in a manner that really made us feel like guests, as opposed to paying punters. Decor understated but smart and cosy- subdued lighting, red leather and stripped wood lent a distinctly intimate, adult atmosphere.

Food was tasty, well-cooked and quickly provided; scallop starter was beautifully executed, but very small- for the price the portion-sizing was mean. Bream main-course was fantastic, really perfectly done. Similarly, my burger was simply delicious. I could get fat(ter) on those, quite happily; endulgent food that is absolutely worth the calories. The only thing keeping them to 4 out of five was value for money and irritating use of poor quality mayonnaise. There's no excuse. Don't do it, Mulberry- I'd be happy to come and make you mayo fresh, every day. Really.

Otherwise, pretty superb. We'll be back soon, with friends.

This is everything a public house should be. It doesn't matter who you are, what age or what music you like, The Mulberry offers a roof over your head or spot in their garden. The bar is far from dry, if you can't find your tipple, then you must drink very rare beverages... The food is great, the staff are great, the music is great, the decor is great!
Come rain or shine this is the place to be! See for yourself!!!

I live in the local area and have done for most of my life! Having spent a few years doing the standard visits to Guildford for a night out we felt we should try somewhere new!! We hit Farnham quite early and visited a few pubs having walked into town and seen little nightlife we were heading home and found out were everybody was! The mulberry! We joined the short line and were in! This resulted in one of the best nights and made our standard wednesday night out so much better.
The DJ was great playing some good music and it was a nice and relaxed vibe. The bar staff were friendly and best bit of all there was a great burger on the go!
Hoping to head back soon for another evening but this time I will try a burger before I am drunk!
