I was looking for a last minute room and saw this place next to the A31. I thought it would be a bit like Travelodge but it turned out to be much better for little more. I paid £50 for a lovely double room and breakfast. The room was very well equipped with everything you could need. The next morning the manager upgraded the continental breakfast to a full english "because its Christmas" which will give you some idea of the friendly style of the place. Despite being next to the A31 the rooms were well sound proofed and I had one of the best night sleeps in a hotel for a long time. The rooms are in a separate building next to the pub which is nicely done out and where you can have a good evening meal and drinks. Would thoroughly recommend it.

We were visiting our daughter who is a student at university in Farnham, for the weekend. We booked a family room ( £110 per night) and a double ( £70 per night), including full English breakfast. The hotel gave us adjoining rooms, as requested.

The Princess Royal Lodge is conveniently situated on Guildford Road, about five minutes drive from Farnham town centre. The lodge is next to the Princess Royal Lodge pub, which is where you check in and breakfast is served- and where you should definitely book a table for in the evenings as the food was superb!

The restaurant and pub are popular with locals and gets busy so booking is recommended. They specialise in British food, which was cooked to perfection; portions were ample, the menu varied and service excellent.

Breakfasts were hearty - cereals, fruit, cheese, yogurts, toast with jams, tea, coffee, fruit juices and the full English was indeed just that-sausage,bacon mushrooms, fried egg, baked beans, black pudding, tomatoes (or alternative choices such as scrambled eggs, poached eggs, beans on toast) set us up for the day!

Despite being situated off a busy road and right next to pub/restaurant,we were not disturbed at all. We didn't hear any of the pub patrons leaving and there was very little traffic noise. The double glazing was ultra efficient and there was also no noise from adjoining rooms. The walls must be either very thick or sound insulated!

Free parking is immediately outside the lodge; secure entry to the lodge and rooms is by card key.Don't be put off by the rather bland look of the lodge.Upon arrival , I was struck by how much more welcoming it would be if the window frames had simply been painted white instead of the dull beige, which looked like an undercoat! This uninspiring neutral decor continues into the interior, decorated in beige and lots of 70s looking brown wood. However, this is only a minor quibble as the rooms, although not luxurious, were spacious, well maintained and immaculate.A cleaner place would be hard to find!

The rooms were heated and the temperature was easily controlled; we slept very well in the extremely comfortable queen size bed and double sofa bed in the family room, as did our family member in the double next door. Rooms also had a remote control TV, heater, hairdrier, air conditioning and a very well stocked tea tray, with supplies replenished every morning. The bathroom was equally warm and sparkling clean! Spare pillows, ample fluffy white towels and toiletries were provided daily. Housekeeping was excellent.

If driving into Farnham, then the best public car parks are beside Sainsburys on The Borough or behind Waitrose next to the University College for the Creative Arts ( formerly Surrey Institute of Arts). Take a walk through the small, pretty, cobbled Lion and Lamb Yard where high class shops mingle with high street names (Laura Ashley Home and Waterstones) and coffee shops. It's situated in front of Waitrose and leads on to West Street and Castle Street for more high street and boutique shopping, coffee shops, restaurants and the castle.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel if driving as it's so close to Farnham centre and much more peaceful than the other hotels on busier streets in the town. However, it would not be as suitable without a car.The food was exceptional and the management and staff friendly and highly professional. We will definitely stay here again.
