Good for an active day out! You can get here by train, about an hour from London to Bentley Station.

On the plus side, it's a pleasant area which seems to have been well planned and well maintained. It is nice to walk round, especially as there are lots of level paths and few muddy bits (in summer, anyway!). So it's a nice destination if you want a compact dose of countryside with easily accessible cafe and toilets.

On the other hand, if you're child free, you'll probably want to avoid this place like the plague. Unsurprisingly, it's a hive of screaming children, the central area particularly. This is actually pretty obvious if you look at the forest's marketing materials and wasn't a surprise to me when I visited earlier today out of curiosity to see what all the glowing TripAdvisor ratings were about.

The car park charges are quite expensive, starting at £1.50 for an hour and rising to £5 for up to four hours.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, you're better off grabbing your ordnance survey map and finding somewhere a lot more off the beaten track where you can park free at the side of the road!

Had a trip to Birdworld with friends and was going to have our picnic in Alice Holt, glad we decided to have it in Birdworld before we left. Last time I visited Alice Holt was in the early 80's, was amazed that they now charge (expensive) for parking and that you can't drive down to the pond anymore, very disappointing.

My family and I love Alice Holt.

Plenty of parking (however not cheap)

Great walks with plenty of attractions on the way round to please little walkers. Lots of places to stop to picnic, but also a nice little café at the entrance.

Loo's always looking clean and lots of them.

The newly renovated children's play area is very nice.

Bike hire is great fun in the summer, I hope it returns.

All children and accompanying adults had a great day, the kids loved hunting for the gruffalo. Great playground area with lots of climbing frames. Very quite coach trip home with nearly all kids sleeping or too exhausted to move !! Will be going back with the dog and rest of family
