Over the years have visited various Café Rouge for a quick Steak Frites or plate of charcuterie and never been disappointed ... not fine dining but good basic food at reasonable price.
Haven't bee to our local one for ages as always full when we dropped by, so booked a table for tonight.
The same miserable head waiter is still miserable ... so far so good.
Ordered a bottle of rose and was brought red but when right one arrived it was very good
Husband had Steak Frites which had to go back as was raw when he had ordered medium rare .. next one was well cooked but tough and tasteless.
My Bouillabaise was minute and 2 of the 5 tiny mussels were empty, fish cooked OK but sauce was dull.
Husbands banana and chocolate pancake was not chocolatey and boring.
My cheese plate was sad - one of the gooey ones had spread and dried at the edge but still served. Some toast burnt but still served.
Even with a voucher for 'second course £2.50' this meal was £61 ... too much for a quick and below average meal.
On the plus side the restaurant has a good vibe ... perhaps best to go and enjoy and just have a coffee!
Go back to what you are good at Café Rouge .. quick and tasty French dishes.
