“Very average.”
Reviewed 9 April 2014 via mobile

Having witnessed the steady decline in the quality of Indian food over the last 30 years, it was with some trepidation that I decided to try out the Lal Akash for a second time in 2 years and yes, the food has got worse here as well. In my opinion no better and probably inferior to a Waitrose takeaway Indian meal. I started with "King Prawn Butterfly" at a whopping £4.95. Many will recall that once upon a time you used to get a giant split prawn or two, unfortunately not any more. By clever and masterful deception, they got a rather small king prawn, made it very big and coated it on both sides in a 2mm thick coating of breadcrumbs. By hammering the living daylights out of this poor prawn, they managed to make it about 1mm thick and about 4 cms square, then adding the 2mm of breadcrumbs on each side, you get what appears is a giant flat thing, with a stuck on prawn tail, on your plate. However when you peel away the thick breadcrumb over coat there is virtually nothing there. A rip off, pure and simple. The rest of the meal was over flavoured and tasted cheap. So it's back to Waitrose takeaways until once again I return to Budapest where you can still get an amazing Indian meal.

I've spent thousands in this restaurant over the last 5 years, food is consistent and pretty good, prices are nudging the high side.

Recently service has become really hit and miss.

“The Food is Great but shame about service and price!”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

We have been here many times over the years because of the food is very good but service, well allot needs to improve in this area! The price can be very expensive compared with the like for like within 20 miles radius. The next question must be from readers is; why go there?

Well to be honest we a live near so it’s the only place with something different and good in quality as expensive as it is in value there isn't much choice available other than the Mogul in Ashtead! This establishment has zero value for money, zero on service and 10/10 on food!

Guys you really need to look at your pricing structure and service!

“Food not bad service poor”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

Been here a few times because the food is pretty good but service has never been great and our last visited was an extremely unpleasant experience so will not be going back!
Food is fairly good and not badly priced- not exceptional but ok. The staff however are quite cocky and arrogant and that spoils the whole experience- even if the food is good it leaves a bad taste!

Reviewed 10 December 2013

I've eaten here a few times (once as a large group) and also got the rather lovely lunch deal as a take away.
The food is wonderful, the staff are always smiling and kind and the atmosphere is great. When we went as a big group we were sat upstairs with another big group, so that we didn't disturb the customers downstairs. Unfortunately, one person in the group was quite drunk and rude, but the waiter was really great with him.
I recommend the coconut rice.
