Unfortunately the food here did not provide the "wow" factor we were expecting. For some reason the chicken korma appeared so bright in colour it was almost a turn off. The tandoori chicken was not as good as we have had in Indian and other places in South Asia.

The redeeming factors were that the nan breads were good and the staff very friendly. If they upped their game on the food front this could be an excellent restaurant.

This is always my choice for Indian food. I have been going here for over 10 years. The staff are lovely and are always willing to stay at the table and chat with you for as long as you keep the conversation going. Good food, really nice and clean decor and a great space upstairs to rent to have your own private party as well.

Staff are great, good service. food is tasty but i found portions were small and chicken cut up in to tiny pieces in curries which is why its only getting a 3 .

Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in SE England. Well cooked. Little oil. No dodgy ingredients.

Having witnessed the steady decline in the quality of Indian food over the last 30 years, it was with some trepidation that I decided to try out the Lal Akash for a second time in 2 years and yes, the food has got worse here as well. In my opinion no better and probably inferior to a Waitrose takeaway Indian meal. I started with "King Prawn Butterfly" at a whopping £4.95. Many will recall that once upon a time you used to get a giant split prawn or two, unfortunately not any more. By clever and masterful deception, they got a rather small king prawn, made it very big and coated it on both sides in a 2mm thick coating of breadcrumbs. By hammering the living daylights out of this poor prawn, they managed to make it about 1mm thick and about 4 cms square, then adding the 2mm of breadcrumbs on each side, you get what appears is a giant flat thing, with a stuck on prawn tail, on your plate. However when you peel away the thick breadcrumb over coat there is virtually nothing there. A rip off, pure and simple. The rest of the meal was over flavoured and tasted cheap. So it's back to Waitrose takeaways until once again I return to Budapest where you can still get an amazing Indian meal.
