So wet wednesday night in South Shields and due to over booking at my choice of hotel i am despatched to Little Haven - The welcome was good and its easy to find buts that was the best bit, room was like a Premier Inn with the charm sucked out, on returning from dinner out i found the bar had been transfomed into a geriatric karaoke venue. Just after midnight i was awoken by dogs barking in the next room and after 20 minutes i called reception, where a surely male grunted and hung up on me. 10 mins later and i had the pleasure of the dogs owner shouting at them for ages!!
So a sleepless night in a cold room with poor TV service! Breakfast wasnt any better, yesterdays sausages re-heated were un-edible and the scrambled egg was just as bad.
Sadly not a place i will be rushing back to.

We are sorry that the guest did not enjoy their stay at Tha Little Haven Hotel.

The Karaoke is a regular event in the Hotel and is enjoyed by many local people and residents alike. We apologise that it did not meet the guests approval.

Please accept our apologies regarding the noise made by a guests dog in an adjacent room. We are a dog friendly Hotel with two rooms set aside for guests with dogs.

The heating and Television reception have been checked with no obvious fault found.

We are sorry that the guest did not enjoy breakfast either, we do receive many compliments regarding our Breakfast and are disappointed it was not to the guests liking.

We do hope that the gentleman reconsiders and that we will see him again in the future.

Yours faithfully,

Graham Davidson

Just had a four night stay at the hotel. Everything went really well from start to finish. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient check in was handled very well. The rooms were bright clean and comfortable. The resturant is lovely and the meals superb. We were a party of 46 and everyone was completely satisfied. So satisfied they want a return visit. Its a lovely area a walkers paradise.

Room Tip: 2request a sea view.

Our 2nd visit to the Little Haven for a family celebration, another reunion of the family back in our home town. Once again we had a great time. A comfortable, relaxed hotel offering great value for money and outstanding river views. But made even better by the fantastic, friendly service from all of the staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Thanks to all.

Room Tip: Pay the very small premium for a sea/river view.....it's well worth it.

I've stayed in the Little Haven a number of times for work. It has the potential to be a nice place to stay but is severely let down by noise. Unfortunately I've stayed on a Wednesday a couple of times and have had the joy of listening to karaoke until after 11pm. The venue is clearly appreciated by the locals but for business travelers with early starts you really don't expect to hear pretty much word for word the karaoke in your room. When I mentioned this to the reception the next morning there was a none committal oh it should have finished by then. This is not a reasonable response considering this is an expensive hotel for the area.

Its a shame as the rooms are clean, with a good breakfast buffet but I won't be back

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms above reception which is the venue for karaoke!!

We are sorry that the guest was disturbed by the Karaoke in the Hotel and the less than sympathetic response from reception. We can locate guests in other areas of the Hotel if requested and have several regular guests who have asked for this arrangement.

Please contact us and we would be glad to discuss quieter room options.

Yours faithfully,

Having read about this hotel LAST AUGUST we eventually managed to book for 4 nights in April. Our first day coincided with the official opening of the promenade and what a smashing place it is. It must have cost millions to do but it is a credit to south shields. The hotel - well what can you say - it was a smashing stay. All the staff were very pleasant and polite and Michael in the restaurant could not do enough for you. The food was excellent especially the steak pie! As other people have said, book a room with a sea view, it is amazing looking out of your bedroom window to see a large ship going past . Breakfast was very good and a lot of choices and everything was served with a smile. Will stay again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: pay for a sea view - it is worth it.

Have just got back from my second stay at this hotel, loved it as much this year as i did last year, I highly recommend every aspect of this Hotel, Its Staff, Its cleanliness, The rooms, the food, its an all round A1 place to stay, and whats more it right on the Beach, realistically what more can you ask for. I really put the staff to test on this recent stay, i was with my elderly disabled Mum, who fell in our room, i went to get help and in no time at all, the hotel owner and 2 of her managers were in our room sorting it and getting mum medical help, thanks all of you especially Micheal, see you all next time thanks again.

We recently went to the restaurant in the Little Haven for Mother's Day lunch. It was priced at £15.95 for 3 courses which wasn't a bad price. The starter was quite nice but the main course was very poor. My husband and I had ordered lamb. This was so tough it was inedible. We complained about this and all the response we got was that they were sorry and would inform the chef. The lamb came with a huge dish of boiled cabbage that could have fed 10 people and a dish of plain mixed vegetables. I was expecting something a little more special from a restaurant in a nice hotel, perhaps cauliflower cheese,or roast parsnips etc. The sweet was nice but I always think the best part of a Sunday dinner is the roast so I felt cheated that I hadn't had any. I am aware that Mothering Sunday probably wasn't the best day to choose to judge a restaurant but we were hoping for something a bit more special. Very disappointed.
