A well located hotel. South Shields is nice place to be based to explore the local area. The Little Haven is a comfortable hotel. The food is very nice and tasty, with a good choice from the menu. The staff are friendly and helpful. Have stayed a few times and never been disappointed.

What a lovely setting for such a well run and honest hotel. The rooma sre clean, the breakfast and food is wondeful and even the bar prices are very reasonable, come on £7 for two pints in a hotel. The beds are comfortable and all the staff are friendly.

Situated right on the sea front the views are wonderful even if Joanne says in November you may need a balaclava! Jean is a dream behind the bar and even the Karioki on Wednesday, as cheesy as it is, is well supported by the locals and all have a good time.

Michael is a legend and should be knighted, he works like a Trojan and nothing is too much for him. Especially if you pay his bar bill.

The food in the evening is wonderful and the chef for some reason seems surprised that it would appear the plate is licked clean.

My only suggestion would be to put Black Out liner in the curtains, all of them please.

Overall a wonderful stay. Yes it is a three star, no there is no gym facilities, but the warmth of the place and friendliness of the people make it a good honest value place to stay for a short break.

Room Tip: Ask for one looking out to sea and not across the River, less light from the Lighthouse!!

Enjoyed our two night stay here. The situation is wonderful being right on the river. Room décor was average but if you pay extra and get a river view, it turns into something quite nice., Service was good, even housekeeping giving a cheery welcome. Not so with a rather brusque receptionist, who needs a little training on giving a welcome to guests.

On the downside carpet in bedroom badly needed replacing. Hairdryer didn't work but spare hairdryer supplied (had to go to breakfast with wet hair). My food was good, but others in party said theirs was 'edible' with one inedible. Breakfast was good on Saturday but Sunday not so good - asked for fried egg, waited 10 minutes, bacon got cold waiting, still no egg. Went up and asked where egg had got to, waited another 5 minutes and then got a poached egg!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is not near the conservatory. Last time we were there, music playing till 2 a...

Kernowminer checked this before a recent stay, and it had some poor reviews, but the company booked it so stay I did, and I found it pretty good. Rooms immaculate, staff very friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and plenty of them, so you were never without help if you needed it. FB actively followed so some queries I had before travelling were sorted very quickly. Bit out of the way if you're on foot, or have kids, yes there's a beach and some sort of fair down the road, (Didn't open while I was there much to my disappointment), but not bad if you're on the bus/taxi or got your own car.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view if they have it.

My wife and I stayed here for some four days whilst I was researching my family tree. As usual in this part of the world, the staff were helpfulness itself, the food was on the good side of average and the price very reasonable. The situation was charming.

We stayed here for one night when coming up to visit friends who live nearby. My husband did the booking and when he told me the price I had low expectations as it was so cheap but I was very impressed with everything at the hotel from the very friendly welcome to the big spacious room with a wonderful view. The breakfast in the morning was very nice with plenty of choice and pleasant staff, I was very impressed with the extra care and assistance they gave to an elderly couple who struggled a bit with mobility. It was also fun to watch the ferry coming in whilst having breakfast. All in all, I was very impressed and would definitely stay here again, I think it is a lovely hotel at a great price.

Room Tip: For a guaranteed sea view, it is a bargain £3!
