Cracking wee hotel, lovely clean rooms.Great tea and coffee making facilities. The toilet was spotless. The beds are very, very comfortable and I had a superb sleep due to this.Close by to plenty pubs and takeaway shops so if the food in the hotel doesn't suit then you don't need to go far for something that does. All in all a brilliant hotel where I enjoyed my stay very much.

I used this when it was classed as a guest house some 40 years ago. The location in this part of South Shields in a conservation area is quiet, and close to the college, a reason I used this years ago. The hotel is comfortable, the staff were helpful and attentive, but may I suggest that although modernisation has taken place, it needs dragging into the 21st C. The dining room provided an adequate evening meal at a most resonable price. Breakfast was good, but the dining room itself is small, and it became necessary to share the table with other guests, not a problem, but a little unusual today. Our room was very comfortable, and we had a good nights sleep. The car park is accessed on the left from Horsley Hill Road by the pedestrian crossing just before rejoining the main Dean Road

On arrival we were met by the reception, very prompt and quick check in, we were shown to our room , which had been upgraded, it was lovely and clean and better than any 3* Honeymoon suites I have seen in other property, we were very impressed. Onto dinner in the dining area, which is small but very comfortable(7tables) we had 3 courses and it was cooked to perfection, very busy at breakfast but breakfast was carried off with ease and was delicious. Plenty hot water and tea/coffee making facilities, comfortable bed with a great nights sleep, restaurant staff and housekeeping staff all cheery and friendly, nothing was to much trouble, we parked out front of the hotel which was short stay but the reception gave directions to private parking at back of the hotel so no problems, I would stay again !

Room Tip: Ask for The Suite when booking, you won't be disappointed.

After reading some of the reviews on here, I was sceptical about booking a room with this hotel for a two weeks course in South Shields Marine School and I'm glad I didn't listen to myself or the reviews!
Less than a stone's throw from South Tyneside College/ South Shields Marine School the hotel is an old Victorian house packed with bags of character. If you want something different from the conveyer belt of modern hotels and over night stops, this is the place. The staff were always pleasant and smiling with a can do attitude. Yes, the hotel could be classed more of a bed & breakfast but it does have it's own off road parking, free wifi and a dining room. Evening meals were always well presented at a great price whilst breakfast was continental, cooked or both!
I would recommend this hotel for anyone that wants something different to the halls of the college for a short course as it is literally 45 seconds walk from the main entrance.
I will be staying here again in the future if I am on any courses in the college.

Stayed there overnight in the single room which was tiny also need something other than a pull down blind at the window, after all who wants to sit in a dark room during daylight hours which is what you have to do as room is overlooked by a window from next door. Was ok for an overnight stay but seemed to be run more like a B&B than hotel but charging hotel prices.

Room Tip: Don't book the single one.

Stayed for 6 nights in February, but have to say disappointed. The web site leads one to think that there is 'hotel' amenities, but no lounge and minute dining/breakfast room. This really is a guest house, but hotel prices!! There were quite a few things that were not up to scratch, but in fairness the manager has responded to me on these, and I appreciate some are out of his hands. Had a return booking for April, but decided to cancel and try another larger hotel, which incidentally is a lower price than The Sir William Fox, even on the Easter weekend.

Arrived later into the day at about 7pm and booked a twin room for me and my brother to stay on for the night whilst visiting family. We were put in a room at the end of a corridor that had an old piano outside blocking fire exit. Breakfast poor too!
