“Dodgy Neighbours”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

I rarely stay in hotels on Saturday nights because of the curse of stag and hen dos, but reckoned I'd be OK using one at a motorway service station miles from the nearest city centre - wrong! I arrived after a 2 hour drive around 8.30pm to find a large number of young Asian males making a racket in several rooms on my corridor. 2 complaints to the receptionist and they were on their last warning. An hour later they left by taxi for a night out and thankfully didn't cause any problems when they got back. That aside, this hotel is much the better for a recent makeover. Just beware when leaving the A1(M) to ignore the "HGV's ONLY" markings as this IS the hotel car park entrance. You will hear a gentle background rumble of traffic passing all night, but not so bad as to prevent a goods night sleep.

Stopped for one night on our way north, a horrendous ten hour journey made the hotel a very welcome sight! Very badly signposted into the travelodge and ended up in the wrong car park so be very careful.

Room good sized and we all had a good night. Would not recommend the travelodge breakfast, very expensive. We got bacon rolls and coffee from Greggs.

No pressure to check-out, overall good service and would use again.

Awful stay, cut it short by one night as the room was absolutely boiling hot and the windows hardly opened due to a security feature, this on a second floor window with cctv at a services crawling with police!
The advert said we would have a king sized bed but all we had was a double. It really was stifling heat, our friends at the premier inn had a fan in every room and paid thirty pounds less.
This really was a nightmare trip, we will never consider travelodge again and will be claiming our money back.

Other reviews have titles like "peaceful" "calm".... REALLY!?!?!

It might be refurbished..... end of the good bits.

It's right next to the A1M.... so expect road noise.... but it was hot on Saturday night so I opened the window the allowed 2 inches..... only to be bombarded with a bank of air conditioning units from the building opposite..... whirring until midnight...... but hey it was too hot to sleep anyway....

Tried to watch the football..... but the ITV feed was dreadful..... anyway... back to the whirring air conditioning units..... oops.... they now gone off.

Off to sleep...... come on sleep.... I know it's hot...... GET TO SLEEP..... oh well, maybe not

It's 5 am..... WHIRRRR.... the air conditioning units are back on..... sadly not for my room!!!

so..... let's grab a shower.....

OMG..... seriously... no pressure..... you have to practically run around in the shower to catch a drip......very disappointing!!!

Travelodge is what it is...... but this was BAD!!!

NEVER AGAIN!!!!

There are two other hotels within 100yds (on the other side of the A1M.... I've stayed in both.... and shall be returning to either of them next time!!!

A group of us booked this hotel for a wedding in the North East, our ages ranged from 21-86 and we all found it a pleasant experience. We received a warm welcome, the rooms were spotless, spacious and nicely furnished.
All fixtures and fittings were to a good standard and there were nice touches like hand and shower gel and tea making facilities with a note to tell you to ask for any more you needed. There was triple glazing, even though we were by the A 1, it was very peaceful and we were also pleasantly surprised by there being no noise from other guests.
We followed the advise of another Trip Advisor reviewer and booked the Italian through the hedge, fantastic service and food.
Our stay here has transformed our view of Travelodges and we were certainly use them in future.

We stayed here recently with other members of our family whist visiting the area for a wedding just after it had been refurbished. We paid £55 for two nights which represented fantastic value, the staff were very helpful, the rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. There is adequate storage and hanging space and the bathrooms very functional, in fact quite stylish. I wouldn't recommend this place for a two week stay but for for a few nights it is spot on.

Spotless. Friendly staff. And get this - through a hole in the hedge, the number one Trip Advisor rated restaurant in the area. Just back from home made tomato soup, excellent peppered steak, and a fruity glass of red.
