“Another Great Stay......!”
Reviewed 8 May 2014 via mobile

I stay here on a regular basis and this week has been another great stop

I can't get over the team here as they always make you feel welcome and treat you more like a friend than just 'another' customer - a lot of other hotels could learn a thing or too here about customer service!

Kirsty Snowball on reception is always very helpful especially when splitting out my complicated bills!! (Thanks again Kirsty)

Loving the new menu as well, loads of new fresh dishes to try.

Looking forward to my next stay....

I found this hotel to be really tired looking, dirty and disappointing. To add insult to injury, the even have the gall to charge guests for wifi.
The lounge area looks quite nice, clean and modern but I'm afraid, like many others, this hotel would seem to care more about its public spaces than its accommodation. The bedroom I had was looking in a very tired state, reminiscent of the 1970s (and not in a good way). I was also a bit muffed that having booked a double room, I was given a twin room; a small gripe maybe but it does not bide well when what is offered dies not match your booking.
The restaurant seemed pricey to me and did not serve food of a quality to merit high prices. The restaurant also closed at 9.30 in the evening! The decor of the restaurant was rather drab and utilitarian (I.e. Basic and not a tablecloth in sight). The menu had little to appeal to vegetarians.
Breakfast was okay but only okay. They do serve Marmite, so that's a plus, but the rest of the offering was only average.
So all in all, this is not a hotel I would recommend and I hope it's not typical of the chain.

My Wife and I based ourselves at the Holiday Inn at the end of April whilst touring Durham and Northumberland...what a find, it really is the ideal location. The staff must be amongst the best in country, truly friendly and helpful. Rooms were excellent and an enormous comfortable bed(don't normally sleep well in hotels). As others have mentioned the breakfast is not your standard hotel fare it has everything you could want from Continental to full English. Tip.. to avoid the high charge for breakfast pay in advance. Will be back later in the year to complete our visit as the weather turned wet.

Have just returned from a couple of nights at the Holiday Inn , Washington. Cannot praise the staff enough both in reception, and in the restaurant and bar. They were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were lovely and clean and very comfortable the extra special loan of a luxury towelling robe was also very welcome. Now I want one !! If anyone from the hotel reads this where can we get the soap from that was in our room, loved it. Food was excellent especially the breakfasts. Would definitely go back again.

Situated between these 2 lovely cities, it makes a good stopover hotel. We were impressed from speed check-in, lovely evening meal and great breakfast. All staff helpful and efficient, rooms fine and bed comfortable. Thanks for a pleasant experience.

This hotel brands itself as a "Holiday Inn" but isn't even close to on-par with a Holiday Inn Express.

Check-in staff were very unfriendly, the corridor leading to rooms was littered with dirty room service dishes, room was well kept and the bathrooms smelt of mildew.

As a IHG Platinum Ambassador I hoped to be offered at least a bottle of water or a points voucher but was given absolutely nothing. No recognition whatsoever.

The only slightly saving grace was its location. It was close to family I was visiting else I would have immediately moved elsewhere.

Don't waste your time or money at this hotel.
