The Green Man is one of the few proper 'village' pubs in the area for miles. It is a pleasure to go to a simple basic 'local' rather than the popular but so very 'chain gastro pub' Dun Cow which is opposite. Great food and lovely staff at the Green Man and for a good price. So, ignoring the unbelievably slow service on Friday nights with the delightful staff struggling to keep their heads above water because there aren't enough of them, what on earth has happened to the menu? It was not great when the gastro pub type bowls etc appeared for some dishes (what is wrong with a plate that you can get your meat and two veg on together?) but because the food was good it didn't matter. However now not only has the menu changed (with less chips - we need more chips after a hard day's work!), the menu card itself looks like a Hungry Horse/pizza takeaway type. Diabolical layout, colour scheme and type face inside. A small point you may think but what a crowd of us really value was the proper pub atmosphere of this pub and the quality of the food. Let's face it, you certainly don't want your brand image to be linked to the likes of pizza takeaways and the Hungry Horse chain! Please don't try and make it something it doesn't need to be. We used to be regulars years ago and then it changed for the worse so we stopped coming. However increasingly so more recently, it's back on form and a great place to eat and meet friends and neighbours for a drink. Please please please ditch the new menu cards, go back to proper plates and give us more chips. And get more help on busy nights because your staff are great but not able to provide the service they want to.
